“Stunning venue with fantastic staff”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

We got married at the GTB in May and from start to finish the whole experience was fantastic. We booked out almost all of the accomodation for friends and family and our guests had only good things to say - the cottages were spacious and well equipped and the B&B rooms were perfect, with very comfy beds. The staff at the venue are lovely and really helpful, we were able to access the rooms very early on the first day and there was no pressure at all to leave on the final morning. I can't speak highly enough of the venue and everyone involved and I would recommend it to anybody. We read a couple of bad reviews online before we booked our wedding and it did concern us, but I can safely say that if indeed there did used to be problems they are long gone now. Thank you to everybody at GTB for everything.

Joe & Gillian,

It was an absolute pleasure to have you bring your family and friends to our Estate to enjoy yourselves on your special day. Thank you for recognising that there has been a great deal of work done here over the last few months; the cottages have all been repainted, there are other soft furnishing changes still to be made; all beds have had new mattresses, duvets and pillows and the Barn has been spruced up for the season!

It is easy to be negative and no venue can be perfect for every guest of every wedding, no matter how hard one tries. All in all though, when I hear words like yours that mitigate the legacy negativity that I inherited on my arrival it makes me very proud of the whole team and their efforts. I shall pass on your praise accordingly.

We shall continue to strive to invest, get better at what we do and carry on delivering excellent service but we will do so in the vein that we are an old farm Estate not a 24/7 365 hotel which is how we are sometimes judged.

All the very best for a long and happy future together.
Warm Regards
Tim

We had our wedding at the barn in April and it couldn't have been better. The staff were helpful, flexible and friendly. The rooms were lovely. Friends and family stayed in both the b and b rooms, and the cottages and spoke highly of them.

We found the relaxed way the staff dealt with keys to add to the atmosphere and all appreciated the lack of bureaucracy.

I would recommend it as a wedding venue and somewhere to stay.

Nicola,

It was amazing to have you enjoy yourself here - we like to think that our easy check in and check out promotes a feeling of the guest being in control, without being fussed over. The fact that your whole family and friends had a space that they felt comfortable in, to come and enjoy the relaxed beautiful surroundings.
The shots that Robert your photographer took whilst over in the Tythe House grounds looked stunning and your relaxed easy-going nature as a couple shines through.

All here at The Great Tythe Barn wish you the very best for the future.

We arrived on Saturday 4th May, collected our key and located our room without any difficulty.
The room was very good and the en suite was spotless. We had no problems at all and the staff replenished the coffee, tea, etc. on Sunday morning without our needing to ask. The continental breakfast was good, with a choice of cereal and plenty of fresh fruit, juice, etc. We were guests at a wedding on the Sunday and the barn was beautiful especially in the evening with the fairy lights - everything was just superb and would recommend it.

We had our wedding at the Great Tythe Barn last month and I really cannot recommend it enough as a venue. The staff are very friendly, helpful and flexible.

We stayed in one of the cottages and it was perfect. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the lounge/kitchen area was cosy, well furnished and clean. I almost wish that it had been cold enough for us to need to light the fire.

Many of our guests also stayed in cottages or the B&B rooms and all spoke highly of the accommodation.

We were staying at the venue for my son's wedding - excellent wedding venue and well run.
As we had come all the way from NZ for the event we decided that it would be easier to stay at the venue than try and find somewhere else nearby, a mistake we will not make again. We stayed in the bed and breakfast part of the accommodation so we can't comment on the self catering aspect although we heard it was better.
On arrival the day before the event we encountered the novel way to pick up your key - it's hanging on a board outside the laundry. I suppose this saves the management having to interact with their clients and was successful as we never saw anyone from the management during the whole stay. Finding the room and getting to it was a challenge, especially up the very steep flight of stairs! I hope the members of the wedding party on the day of our arrival didn't mind us having to drive through the festivities.
On finding the room we discovered it was was mediocre in size and the en-suite even smaller, my laptop probably had a bigger screen than the television. Not only was there was no milk to go with the complimentary tea and coffee, no hair dryer was supplied either; although we did manage to hunt down a cleaning lady who eventually found some milk for us, commenting that they probably just forgot! There was also a note in the room informing us that rooms were only serviced every 2 days - not what we expected at all, especially as the other establishments we had stayed at on our trip were very conscientious about cleanliness.
A note on the shower warned of over pressurisation advising us to only use it as a hand shower until the situation had been resolved- on using the shower we discovered that the water came out with the force and speed of an arthritic snail; this however was somewhat of a blessing as the shower drain couldn't cope with anything more than a dribble. My wife was not happy on the day of the wedding as the water pressure was hardly enough to wash her hair and prepare for the big day!
Going for breakfast on the first morning we found that the whole room had been taken over by the wedding party from the day before, not enough room to squeeze anyone else in, I couldn't comment on the availability or quality of the food as we never saw it and decided to drive elsewhere for breakfast - another win for the absent management.
Obviously during the conversion of the buildings into accommodation no thought had been paid to sound-proofing anywhere, there were a lot of rooms in close proximity, and with wedding guests from both the previous wedding and the one we were attending, coming and going at all hours in various states of euphoria and the usual inability to close a door quietly when you've "had a few" little sleep was achieved.
The day after the wedding we left, after saying fond farewells to the family, without even trying breakfast and although sorry to leave family we were not sorry to leave the Great Tythe Barn.

The barn was lovely and the food for the wedding was amazing. What was a real shame was the B&B. £140 a night for a family room, and on booking was told that the sofa was the extra bed and not suitable for adults - it wasn't suitable for children either. Rock solid and very uncomfortable. Shower had pressure issues and the heating couldn't be turned down so it was a sauna. Continental breakfast was a joke, not enough roon to sit at a table not a croissant in sight, it was make your own toast or cereal. We chose to have a cooked breakfast at the pub n town. Way over priced, not sure how they can justify the cost, we had a more comfortable night at the travel lodge for £35! Would not recommend staying at the B&B would stay in one of the local pubs.

We had a great time at our friends wedding and I cannot fault the venue, it's a great setting, staff were polite and helpfull.

The bed in are room was as hard as a board, so we both didn't sleep, and the breakfast is poor. Especially for £100 a night.
