Set Lunch £12.50 for 2 coures £15 for 3, the service was entusiastic and friendly but the food was very average and did not live up to the service and pleasant surroundings with the puddings being even less than average with a bread pudding straight from school dinners and a brulee which was totaly liquid under the crust, a sad lunch only brightened by the staff

This is the place to go if you want to get a great set menu. Prices were really good and food was exceptional standard for the price. We went for both lunch and dinner on a recent stay to Tetbury.
Try to get a table by the window looking out into the lovely gardens.

We arrived in Tetbury in search of Sunday lunch and 'found' The Close.

A Christmas party was being held (in July) so we were asked to order/pay for our food at the bar and to sit outside in the garden.

It was a really nice day so the garden opportunity was welcome. The Sunday lunch was fine apart from my usual concern that when I ask not to have Yorkshire Pudding/cauliflower cheese, I just have this left off the plate rather than receive extra seasonal vegetables.

When we took our table there was dirty crockery in front of us; no attempt was made to move it whilst we sat there so we moved it to the side - it was still there when we left!

Interestingly we had avoided The Snooty Fox as we thought it would be expensive but on leaving The Close we looked at the menu and found the prices at The Snooty Fox were slightly less than at The Close for lunch.

We have eaten here several times before - last time a year or so ago - and we've always been very impressed. Not this time. We ordered roast beef and roast pork from the Sunday lunch menu; both arrived suspiciously quickly and both were barely luke-warm. Both portions had obviously been sitting around for some time. We sent them back and they were returned, with apologies, rather warmer than before. The vegetables (apart from the potatoes) were fine, but a very small portion. The desserts were no better: a very basic sticky toffee pudding with cream instead of the ice-cream promised on the menu (no explanation or apology) and a bread and butter pudding which was solid, tasteless and almost entirely without any fruit. It's very sad to see such a decline in standards - the impression is that the kitchen is doing as little as it thinks it can get away with, which is a sure way to lose custom. It will certainly lose ours...
