Where to start.??

Obvious our host and hostess; she has a voice you could listen to for hours, he is full of stories you could listen to for hours and they invite you into a magical world for a weekend of wonder.
Found through a company called Further Afield, it was a birthday weekend and Oak House was perfect.
The room was extraordinary to say the least, decorated within and inch of its life, it is a cross between the Ashmolean museum and the best of alice in wonderland as is the rest of the house.
delightful, eccentric, eclectic, amusing, thought provoking and we have not even got to the breakfast menu yet.
The three days spent here were a sheer delight. Breakfast was superbly overwhelming and afternoon tea a real delight for the eye and the taste buds, every moment gave you something else to look at and admire or be challenged by.
the warm and caring from one's hosts was never intrusive but always there and all the little gestures made it so special one almost does not want to share.

expensive but worth every penny unless the sybaritic life is not for you

go enjoy and revel

Room Tip: all the rooms are different and all are truly special and unique

The interior of Oak House is as eclectic and colourful as hosts Gary and Nicola's previous lifestyles. They greet you like old friends and then leave you to relax as if it was your own home. We stayed in the Prince's Suite at the front of the house – a spacious room mixing a bold colour scheme with traditional furniture. Nicola's afternoon tea (delicious home-made cakes and scones) can be taken in your bedroom or the sumptuous lounge. When you manage to drag yourself out of bed Tetbury is a lovely town full of antique shops, but Barnsley, Bibury (our favourite) and Burford are all chocolate-box villages worth a visit. All in all a great anniversary weekend break ... thank you Gary and Nicola and not forgetting Woody (as charming as his owners).

A stay at the Oak House No 1 is always indulgent, welcoming and eccentrically British. Nicola & Gary are charming hosts with many interesting tales. The star of the show is Woody who is utterly adorable! There are so many reasons to stay at the Oak House - stunning bedrooms (the Prince of Wales suite is our fav); relaxing, tranquil bathrooms; afternoon tea (handmade by Nicola) in the drawing room; a banquet of breakfast in the dining room - see if they can guess your order. A trip to the Chef's Table restaurant in Tetbury is a must for any visitor and Nicola & Gary are very happy to take charge of the booking and help with other suggestions. Cannot recommend highly enough, although would love to keep it a secret so that we always have a room available!

My partner treated me to a return visit to Oak House No1 for my birthday. I can't think of a better place to spend a weekend. Nicola and Gary are dream hosts; welcoming, brimming with tales and good humour, but they know when to leave you to your own devices. And the house and rooms are so spacious that you never get the dreaded 'B&B cabin fever'. Our room (the Cavalier Suite) was comfortably bigger than most London flats, and a wonderful place to lounge around and eat Nicola's amazingly good scones.

Tetbury's plethora of antique shops range from the brilliant (i.e. Lorfords) to the hilariously awful, but the real stars are the buildings themselves - wonderfully atmospheric Georgian houses. We had dinner at The Chef's Table again and I loved sitting at the counter watching the chefs at work (if only I could keep my own kitchen so tidy when cooking dinner). It does get rather hot and steamy, but that's part of the fun.

As a gay couple you never quite know what you're in for when trying new hotels - am so glad we've found Oak House No1 as it feels like a place that celebrates life, people and culture in all its diversity. Hope to return before too long.

We stayed at oakhouse no.1 for a birthday and anniversary treat. What a treat it was. Nicola and Gary were very welcoming hosts. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. We stayed in the cavalier suite which was beautifully appointed with lovely furniture and artwork. It has a large luxurious bathroom, the photos do not do the rooms justice. We had a drink in the blue lounge which has artwork around the walls and interesting objects to look at and lovely squashy sofas. In the morning we had breakfast in the dining room which has a huge chandelier over a huge table, again with interesting artwork and objects to look at. Nicola served us a lovely breakfast and was very friendly. This is a perfect place for romantic getaway in beautiful unusual stylish surroundings with great hosts.

Room Tip: all rooms beautiful and different

Loved the place. Stayed over a weekend with my husband at the end of September.
We arrived earlier than check-in time and Nicola was kind enough to prioritise the cleaning of our room so we could check in at 2pm, instead of of the customary 3pm.
While they prepared the room we drove to a nearby Pub in a quite residential lane and what ensued was just quite superb.... a Hunting Group finishing their (faux) hunt of the day appeared from nowhere, all horses and hounds, velvet helmets, neck scarves and tweed to have a refreshment at the pub, where the staff hurried outside with bacon and sausage rolls, beer, wine, sandwiches.. the lot! It was like something our of a history book, they all look like a mix beween Prince Charles and Hugh Grant. Be assured though, they only follow a scent, so no foxes were killed and it only happens twice a year.... quite something!

Back to the the Hostel we were greeted by Nicola and Gary who were very welcoming and showed us around what I can only describe as a fabulous art deco gallry style house. That alone makes the stay worthy. Once they showed us to our upstairs room we were asked at what time we wanted cream tea and we agreed to have in their lovely back garden.

Our "quarters" consistend of spacious, cream - coloured room overlooking the back garden, accessed through our own lockable door, after which a small aisle ensued with a large bathroom with an even larger bathtub.

All was testefully decorated and the soft cream carpet was a joy to walk on (barefoot - of course). The bed was spacious and very comfortable - although the TV screen was oddly place to the side and way too high up... but who wants to watch TV when you can stare for hours to the decoration and art around you.

The mornign breakfast was served in their enourmous kitchen and the menu catered for all tastes sweet and savoury and was enough to fill us up for another day of exploring the countryside around.

Lovely stay, warm hosts, mind-blowing art deco.

Room Tip: Overlooking the back garden for ultimate peacefullness

My husband took me here as a surprise for our 10th wedding anniversary. And what a totally fabulous surprise it was - the boy done good! I cannot recommend the Oak House No.1 enough for a special night or two away, especially if you like art and interior design. It's like being in an Elle Decoration spread.

If you're after Cotswold tweeness and muted colours this is not the place for you. From the outside it looks like a lovely Georgian Cotswold cottage. On the inside it is a sophisticated and eclectic blend of bold colours, unique furniture and art that you would expect to find hanging in a gallery. I love the grand chandlier in the kitchen, and our suite - The Cavaliar - was beautifully decorated and probably not dissmiliar in size to the ground floor of our house. Some people may find it over the top but I thought it oozed confidence and good taste.

The hosts Gary Kennedy and Nicola MacWilliam are absolutely lovely - very warm and welcoming, very chatty and extremely interesting to talk to. Nothing is too much trouble. They have travelled the world collecting art and doing up houses and are clearly not short of a bob or two, so why do they do it? Well, I think they enjoy letting people into their home to enjoy the items they have collected over the years and also like the opportunity to meet people. They do appear to be genuinely interested in their guests.

If you're after a lovely weekend break that costs about the same as a fairly ordinary hotel room in central London then give this a try. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and Tetbury is fantastic too. Very pretty Cotswold town with a great market on Saturday on Sunday to pick up some lovely unique finds.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent. We had the Cavalier Room which I think is the 'special' one if...
