Owner description: The Museum in the Park is set in the beautiful grounds of Stratford Park in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Situated in a Grade II listed 17th Century wool merchant’s house; our collection tells the fascinating story of the Stroud District’s rich and diverse history. With over 4,000 objects on display, including dinosaur bones, historical paintings and even one of the world’s first lawnmowers, there is something to spark the interest of all of our visitors! In addition to the main displays in the mansion house, we have our modern extension which houses a small gift shop and café area, alongside a modern, purpose-built art gallery showing a varied programme of exhibitions. Behind this is Stroud’s ‘secret garden’ - a contemporary Walled Garden that will amaze and may well cause you to say 'wow'!

One of my grand daughters' favourite places to visit, Stroud's Museum in the Park is a gem. There are some really interesting artefacts laid out attractively and if you have time to read all the information you could learn a lot about Stroud's history. The Victorian era is very well presented so if your children are studying the Victorians it would be useful to take them. The museum is free and there is a small cafe area and well stocked shop. The setting in the park is lovely, take time to wander and spot the squirrels!

This is a fantastic museum and one which we have used regularly for family and guest visits for many years now. Really child-friendly, special seasonal events and activities such as craft, art etc; treasure hunts, colouring and lots of things to touch and see about the history of Stroud and family life/work, industry and leisure in the area over the centuries. Staff are helpful and the exhibitions easily accessible, with something organised for each school holiday to offer a fresh feel to your visit. Fantastic for a rainy day activity for the holidays if you fancy a change from the dreaded indoor play area - and FAR more interesting for mum and dad too as well as the kids! I am sure we will be fitting in a visit this summer once more...there is even a small coffee area too if you need revitalising.

Have never seemed to have had time to look around - probably because it is just across the road from the hotel! Super little museum, very child friendly - 6 and upwards I should think. I loved the way you went into the different rooms which were like the rooms people used to live in. Especially fascinated by the 'bathroom' facilities. Still feel I have missed a lot so will definitely go again and give myself more time. And it is all FREE!

The park is lovely and a great place to spend a sunny afternoon lazying around. Excellent little cafe but I thought the museum had the potential to be so much more than it is. Don't get me wrong - its well laid out and there are some very interesting artefacts but I left feeling it had only scratched the surface of Strouds fascinating history. Definitely worth a visit though

A sensible size - good for an hour/90 minutes visit - well presented exhibits - free (although they do ask for a donation) - friendly staff who are very happy to help. Good for adults, and also key stage2 kids. The park looks good as well, but we didn't spend much time in it because of the weather.
