This is the 3rd time we have stayed here and love it. Great views from our room of the common. 5 min walk to grab some locally produced ice cream (winstones) and 30 sec walk to bin ends at the bear, where the guys there really know their stuff and are so passionate about wines. Service was faultless and food was great. It wasn't perfection hence the AA 3 stars but got the big things right.

this was the second time we have stayed here, not such a bargain price but now we know the quality we dont mind paying extra. The breakfast is leisurely and plentiful, lots of choice for those of us on special diets. The chef is willing to adapt anything on the bar menu to suit, which is so good as we had a choice for once and chose to eat there, laze by the croquet lawn or watch wimbledon in the bar. only gripe was the difficulty in getting online. the system is extremely slow if you have forgotten your password: my partner had his access sent 2 days after we got home! still, the beer is good.
deep feather pillows and a feather duvet meant i was warm as toast and sank into easy slumber.

Room Tip: rooms near the new extension are over the kitchen. the extractor fan buzzed on tiill maybe 11pm.

For family of four this room was too small but it was adequate and it looked over beautiful Rodborough Commons. It was amazing breakfast, fantastic bar, large reception rooms for wedding which was reason we were there. We enjoyed the croquet lawn. 2 hr drive to Stonehenge! Fantastic nearby pub such as The Ragged Cot!

This is the second time we have stayed at the hotel and both times we have enjoyed our visit very much. We booked a Superior Double room and it did not dissappoint. The staff were very friendly and efficient. It is in a beautiful setting on the common and has a very relaxed atmosphere.

Room Tip: There are lots of stairs in this hotel so if you are not too agile request a ground floor room.

We stayed at the Bear for the weekend having booked a concert at Westonbirt Arboretum very close by. The hotel staff were very welcoming when we arrived Friday evening and our room was a delight with dual aspect views over the common and valley looking towards the river Severn. Our evening meal was delicious and again staff were very helpful and courteous. Breakfast on both days was delicious with a varied menu to choose from. The building is very interesting with an internal courtyard and superb croquet lawn. The location is wonderful, walking over the common with the fantastic views of the Severn valley was made even better by Winstones ice cream shop being close by, recommend the strawberry and cream cone! Will definitely visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views over the valley

My wife and I stayed here after a wedding. The hotel is beautiful and the staff especially helpful. We had to check in before the room was ready but by the time we got back very late the staff had put our bags in our room. The room itself was absolutely stunning. Breakfast the following morning was excellent.

I Stayed here for one night with a Formula 1 team, we were testing nearby at the Kemble Airfield. The Bear is a fine example of every that is wrong with British hospitality. Expensive continental ales served badly in the wrong branded glasses. Inedible, cheap and nasty food, inexperienced, very young staff. Bar and bedrooms way too hot, rubbish shower and smelly shower curtain, soap dish hanging off the wall. The Bear is a classic case of overpromising and massively under delivering, I wouldn't choose to stay again.
