“Going Back”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

We first stayed at this hotel 18 months ago and promised ourselves we would go back, and we are later this month. We are really looking forward to staying in this traditional inn with its great atmosphere, food and rooms. Great location and you can park (which is difficult in Stow!). On our first visit i asked for flowers etc to be in the room for our arrival, this was all organised by the hotel with perfection and got our stay off to a memorable start. We choose the smallest room which was very wise as it is over the archway and you do not get any noise from the bar. It is also very romantic.

Stopped at the "White Hart Inn" on a very cold January week-end. The Hotel was exceptionally cosy, several log fires burning, wonderful atmosphere. Good large bedroom ( Stag room ) and on-suite, again nice and cosy throughout our stay. Restaurant also catered for our dietary need ( gluten free ) . So all in all we found it a very pleasant hotel, would use again if visiting Stow.

Room Tip: The Stag room could be recommended, large and very comfortable bed, good views from window and excel...

We popped into the White Hart Inn for dinner the night we arrived in Stow-on-the-Wold. It was the closest restaurant to the little path that we took to get from Birch House to the main town. It was pretty empty when we arrived around 6:30, which was fine. The food was decent. My husband had bangers & mash, which he enjoyed. I had pasta with spinach & cream sauce. It was good, but had a bit too much sauce for my liking. The service was good; no waiting for anything but the food to cook.

Having stayed at another (disastrous) place the night before we looked forward to staying here. The room was clean although in need of some redecoration, the bathroom was superb and the refreshment tray very well stocked. The bed was comfortable although whenever anyone went up to the floor above it was quite noisy. The lady who booked us in appeared to be doing some very long shifts as she was there until closing and started around 8am, however she was friendly and welcoming. What let the place down was the breakfast - very poor and not much of it (the sausage tasted distinctly off). The public areas of the hotel are looking tired, and after the experience with the breakfast would not be tempted to eat here.

A friend booked this hotel by mistake. She's a good friend, so we'll forgive her. Mistakes happen.

However, this is one we won't be repeating.

The hotel ran out of water on two consequtive mornings. That's not ran out of hot water, but ran out of water!

The problem stems from restricting breakfast to between 09:00 and 10:00. Consequently, everyone is showering at around the same time.

Also, the rooms slope. Not a suprise really in an old building. However, trying to sleep on a slope with your head lower than your feet is strange sensation.

Don't expect mod-cons and the whole place is a bit tatty.

All in all a bit of a dump.

Right in the centre of this pretty town square.Has a guest's car park around the back which takes some finding as its not signed anywhere and directions from staff were poor. What a bonus the parking was in this busy town.
Charming olde worlde pub, well modernised with comfy bed and well appointed bathrooms in authentically rickety interior. The drinks tray had good quality tea&coffee with a caffetier & cookies.
Breakfast was lovely with quality, local ingredients and even the landlord's homemade jams.
Yes there's some worn carpets and wonky surfaces but I think it all adds to the charm. Evening menu didn't excite us and prices looked steep so we ate elsewhere. Atmosphere in pub& restaurant seemed.....lacking and place mostly empty on busy (if damp) bank Holiday. Don't know why as beer was fine, (if a little pricy).
We'd definitely return and advise others to try it too. Perhaps it'd be more charismatic in winter/low season?

We went to the White Hart for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. The reviews were good, the place was nice and clean and the menu looked appetizing. It was a BIG MISTAKE.
We ordered the roast beef and the fish pie. The veg with the beef was reheated and greasy; my husband found them inedible and my fish pie was watery and contained more egg than fish. It was the worst fish pie I have ever been served.
The food with a pot of tea and a pint of bitter cost £31.00. I would recommend that you steer clear of the place if you want to eat good food
