“Tea at its best.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

Ideal position in Stow, and an excellent choice for coffee
lunch or afternoon tea. Staff are very pleasant and the
setting inside or outside is attractive.

“Appalling service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

We stopped here for a quick break on a fairly quiet Sunday afternoon. As it was a hot day, we went to sit outside. There were two waitresses serving outside. They saw us come in and sit down but nobody came over to serve us. Another couple came in and sat down and were served almost straight away. We waited to see if the waitress would then come over to take our order too but no. Five minutes later, the other couple's order came out, but once again the waitress ignored us. This was now fifteen minutes after we had walked in, so my husband got up and went in to place our order at the till. They said they would bring it out to us - proving that they knew where we where after all. Ten minutes later our drinks arrived - a bottle of water and a bottle of lemonade - how could it have taken so long just for this? Worst was that the waitress did not bring them over in a tray, she carried them, with her fingers in the glasses like a barmaid collecting empties. She barely spoke a word as she dumped them on the table in front of us - obviously annoyed that my husband had moaned about the lack of service by going in to order at the till. About five minutes later, the other waitress came out and asked us if someone had taken our order. We were polite enough to just say no, but we had gone in to place our order - although I have to wonder at her intelligence when we were sitting there with our drinks in our hands that she had to ask this. Then, just for good measure, a third waitress then came out to ask if she could take our order about five minutes after a that. Just appalling - they didn't know what they were doing and they didn't care. It was a very hot day - all we wanted was a cold drink, not to place a complex order, it really shouldn't have been that difficult. I would like to make the excuse that they where busy - but they weren't, especially with three of them serving. Sorry to say, we won't bother going back here, and we certainly won't recommend it, in fact just the opposite. I am not the sort of person to give negative feedback, preferring to not leave feedback at all if it is that bad, but we felt so annoyed at the way we were treated here that we made an exception in this case!

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that you had to wait for your order to be taken on this day. All we can say is that it is difficult to keep track of the order people arrive when we have people seated both inside and outside. That is no excuse, and I will feedback your review to all members of staff involved to make sure this does not happen again. Regards, Lucy's Tearoom

“Fantastic service and food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

We have sampled many of the tearooms in Stow, but Lucy's surpasses the others in the quality of welcome, fresh, home cooked food and lovely surroundings (it's a quintessential English tearoom). We have 3 children and have always been put at ease and offered children's portions of the main meals. The Rarebit Crumpets are delicious, as (so my children inform me!) are the Nutella Crumpets! We'll definitely be back!

“The most lovely tea room in Stow.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

This is the most delightful place to have lunches and afternoon tea. The decor is so inviting and attention to detail with things such as the planting are lovely.
I had mushrooms on toast for lunch with the most excellent English breakfast tea and as we enjoyed it here so much we came back for afternoon tea where we enjoyed more good tea and I sampled the coffee and walnut and the Victoria sponge cakes which were fresh, moist and thoroughly delightful.
The portions are very generous but the staff were more than happy to package up our leftovers to take away.
The service from the friendly staff was very good and even though the facilities are located in an outhouse located in the delightful cottage garden, they are thoroughly modern and luxurious.
I would definitely come here again when I next visit Stow rather than trying any of the other places of which there are many.

“Great coffee and cakes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

This café has a good atmosphere indoors, with two splendid tables in a bay window looking out on to the square, but also has a nice patio garden at the back and a table out the front, Toilets are immaculate (always a good sign).

We only had coffee and cake but the coffee was very good and the cakes (lemon drizzle and apple&almond, baked on the premises, with a very re-assuring homemade look) were just about the most delicious we have ever tasted. Service also was very good.
