Stow on the wold is a very pretty town and a great base to explore the Cotswolds. The Stow Lodge Hotel is well located in the towns main square. The hotel has a great ambience with loads of old world charm. The staff were very friendly and service was good. The room was comfortable however, as other reviewers have mentioned, the church bells can be a little disturbing and the main road near the annexe is busy. Only dined in the restaurant for breakfast which was OK. The only complaint was that we did not have wifi in our room. I would stay here again.

This was our sixth visit to this hotel and it is still one of our favourites. The location in Stow is ideal for a wander around the village and yet has a wonderful secluded garden to relax in and enjoy lunch or a drink (or two). The rooms are very comfortable, we had room number 4 at the front of the hotel overlooking the garden. The restaurant is excellent with breakfast served to you rather than buffet style. Evening meals are excellent with the menu changed every day, portions are generous and there is a comprehensive wine list at very reasonable prices. Staff are very friendly and obliging and always willing to help. Highly recommended and will definitely be visiting again when we can fit another visit in between cruises!

The Stow Lodge Hotel was absolutely everything you would expect from a traditional historic lodge. We booked at the last minute so were not in the main lodge, but in what was probably once the stable or servants quarters--and yet our room was absolutely charming, conveniently situated across the drive from the main lodge. It was a bit like being transported back in time, or starring in your own historic British drama. We enjoyed cocktails on the large lawn, surrounded by gardens, and had a lovely very traditional English dinner in the formal dining room, followed by sherry in the parlor. I was glad that we had packed some dressier clothes, because people did "dress" for dinner here and, surprisingly, most of the men also wore jackets to breakfast. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, and yet the charming town is just down the lane. We felt a little like we had been cast in Downton Abbey--it was just that perfect.

Room Tip: Some of the other reviews mentioned being bothered by the church bells--since we were on the far sid...

We stayed two nights at the weekend when the hotel was busy. Our room (8) wasn't large but it was big enough for our needs though the smallish window and the four poster bed meant it lacked natural light. It looked out onto the church with it's infamous bells that chime every quarter of an hour, 24 hours a day which didn't disturb myself though my wife has slept better. Breakfast was good with a plenty of choice including freshly cooked food which I much prefer to the usual buffet. We also enjoyed the one evening meal we had from a large and varied menu which appears to change daily. The hotels grounds are very attractive and quite large for a town centre hotel as the entrance is on the Market Square in Stow. We liked the owners restriction on the use of the garden to residents only at various times including afternoon tea which made it a quiet and relaxing place.

A couple of nights here took me back to the 1950s when I used to stay in such hotels as a child with my parents. It is individual, not part of a chain and takes care to provide for the fairly old clientèle who frequent it. The position is next to the Fosse Way, a very busy road but the hotel is screened by the detached block in which some rooms (including ours) was situated, as we had booked late. It is only the bathrooms that face the road. The gardens of the hotel are simply lovely and very well kept. The décor is "olde worlde" with patterned carpets, prints of English watercolours and beams (some of which are real). The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The rooms are well kept and clean, but the plastic flowers should have been thrown away many years ago - who likes or uses these awful things now?. Breakfasts are served in a very good dining room and are varied and sustaining - nothing is too much trouble. We only ate dinner there one night but the lemon sole was excellent and memorable. This is not a cheap hotel but it is a good business that deserves to succeed as it really cares about what it does. We would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the separate detached block as there is road noise. Rooms in the hotel mainly overlook...

Beautiful old building with traditional decor. Super-clean rooms and good home cooking. The staff are friendly and accomodating, nothing is too much trouble. Ideal place to visit for a relaxing break but don't expect any night life-everywhere shuts down after 10pm. Ideal base for exploring The Cotswolds. The nearby church is small but exquisite.

Room Tip: We stayed in the extension but the road was a bit loud so a room in the hotel itself would have been...

We are here from Melbourne Australia staying 9 nights and absolutely love it. The hotel is beautifully kept and our room so comfortable - the owners and staff obviously take great pride in the Lodge and the garden is a picture. We leave in 2 days time and will be sorry to depart but hopefully will be back when we are next in the UK. Stow is a wonderful location, Stow Lodge a great place to stay and there is a terrific British Pub almost next door - the perfect end to our 2 months break.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5 overlooking the front garden
