“our fantastic stay at number four”
Reviewed February 17, 2012

We had a look at the reviews before we visited the hotel and felt that our stay had lived up to our high expectations. We had a wonderful time, staff went out of their way to be helpful. Rooms were very trendy furnished and extremely clean. We thought that all facilities had been carefully thought about. The food was at a very high standard and were very obliging when we wanted a slight variation of what was on the menu. We had a great time and would definately go again!

Just returned from one night stay at Number Four. All areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished, and all in all it's just impeccable! The room is of standard size but the bed is amazingly big and soooo comfortable...we loved it!!!! We ordered room service and although told it might take a little longer than usual because the kitchen was very busy we had a call from reception apologising for the delay and offering us two complimentary glasses of wine....very nice thank you!!
All staff were welcoming and friendly , especially Letty who served us the delicious breakfast.
We loved our stay and would highly recommend this wonderful little haven.
Many thanks.

Room Tip: Room 104 was perfect....the hotel cannot control nocturnal guests...the traffic noise is very minima...

Took my husband for a birthday treat.
Just brilliant, friendly staff, excellent rooms, amazing food. We'll be back again!
Not cheap but well worth it.
Highly recommended

Based on reading the many excellent reviews and taking the few average reviews with a pinch of salt we booked this hotel. However, the average reviews are in our opinion more accurate.
The staff are indeed friendly and helpful and the public areas are very nice. However, the room and bathroom although very clean were small and basic and more akin to a motel as was mentioned in a previous review. The hotel is very close to a main road and there was some sleep disturbance.

We've just returned from a short break at Number Four and loved it. The staff were fabulous - friendly & accommodating. The food was fantastic. We had a suite and it was worth the extra money, giving us plenty of space to veg out. The room was spotless - I've never stayed in a cleaner hotel bedroom - the bed comfortable (several reviews mention the single duvets but if you read the info on the desk you'll see that doubles are available if you want one; likewise fresh milk - if you want it, ask for it... not hard!). Simple things like the lighting were good too - in most hotel bedrooms you need a torch to get around. The public areas are lovely too and we spent a happy & lazy afternoon reading magazines, watching the rugby on the TV and the snow fall outside. At £230 for a dinner, bread & breakfast deal, it's not cheap but we felt it was good value for money for a very relaxing & comfortable rest. All in all, a great place and we will return.

Room Tip: Suite is worth the extra money - we had room 201.

Thank you for your review and we're delighted you enjoyed your stay. The snow has nearly gone but more has been forcast for the weekend! I have also passed your comments onto all of the team here at Number Four. We look forward to welcoming you again (perhaps when the weather is warmer) when you next visit the Cotswolds.
Warm regards

After reading the recent reviews we had high expectations for our weekend stay, which was for a special celebration. I advise that you don’t just read the glowing reviews recently posted, but click on the ratings button to reverse the order – the negative comments are still valid.
The good points were: Restaurant/bar staff were excellent; food was mostly very good; room was spotlessly clean; public areas were modern and attractive; good books to browse in the lounge.
However these were the bad points: Room and ensuite were both VERY cramped (ground floor, room 104); ‘double bed’ had two single duvets; noise all night from room above; no iron (no room for a ironing board anyway); one very disappointing meal – ‘sole and scampi frites’ is just breaded fish with boiled potato and plain vegetables.
We did not complain as that would have spoilt our celebration. However, I do wish we had asked for a different room, and as there were very few guests, I am surprised and disappointed that we were given what must have been the smallest, most basic room.

Room Tip: Check there are no nocturnal guests staying in the room above

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on TripAdvisor. We're delighted that you enjoyed the food and that our staff looked after you well. Naturally, we're disappointed that certain aspects of your stay didn't meet expectations and we can understand that you wanted to enjoy your weekend and not complain. We do have suites available which are more spacious than our double rooms and we do have double duvets and ironing boards with irons available on request. We trust you had a safe journey home and should you visit the Cotswolds in the future and decide to stay with us, please contact one of us and we can take careof your reservation personally.
Kind regards

Very warm welcome..nothing too much trouble..staff exceptional in attention to detail & friendliness..room beautiful, very clean & comfortable...then a meal in the restaurant attached to the hotel..excellent service, choice, ambience & above all food (apart from hubbies slightly chewy steak..oops) & wine... Had a fabulous time in the Cotswolds & Number 4 at Stow was the cherry on the cake...make it your must place to stay you won't regret it!!!
