“An excellent lunch”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Four of us called into the Falcon Inn Painswick for lunch, we had not booked and they were quite busy. However with no fuss a table was found. The menu was very good with some interesting items available. The service was first class and the staff professional yet friendly. Lunch itself was very good indeed and reasonably priced. All in all the Falcon was an excellent choice and we will certainly eat there in the future,

My grand daughter sings with the 'Holst Singers'in London, and they were travelling to Stroud to sing at The Subscription Rooms 9th March. My daughter invited me to go with her to see the concert ,and stay at the Falcon Inn,all 3 of us for a treat. The people at the Falcon Inn were so friendly ,and met us at the door with much hospitality. Our 3 bed room was very ,very nice indeed.Comfortable beds,we slept like 'logs'.I certainly would go there again.

Room Tip: All I can say is the room we had was just perfect. We never looked at any other rooms.

The Falcon Inn provided a really high quality all-round experience. Our room was clean, comfortable, had a breathtaking view (over the churchyard), and was very spacious. We had both dinner and breakfast at the Inn which was VERY enjoyable. My thanks go to Sue the waitress for being such a sport and providing some very entertaining banter. If I had to be really picky I would say the bathroom was a little antiquated (although entirely functional) and there were some unusual 'table being moved across the floor' type noises coming from next door in the night....a ghost perhaps! None of this put a dampener on our stay in what has to be one of the most beautiful of all the Cotswold villages. I would certainly go back to The Falcon and would highly recommend it to all.

We have just returned from 2 nights at the Falcon Inn in Painswick and we had an absolutely fantastic time!! The village of Painswick is absolutely gorgeous and the hotel room had an amazing view over the churchyard and into the valley below. The rooms were very well furnished and decorated in excellent taste with wifi, TVs, Drinks making facilities. The first room we were allocated was spacious and had beautiful views, however there was an issue with the heating and hot water, the staff were very accommodating and moved us immediately into an equivalent room in the annexe. We ate at the Falcon both nights of our stay and breakfast and I can honestly say the overall experience was lovely. The food was excellent, the atmosphere cosy and vibrant and the pub in general had a really good "hum" about it. One of the strongest features of the Falcon is its staff who were all lovely, polite, friendly and absolutely NOT pretentious. They were efficient and gave just the right amount of attention to us and our fellow diners. Finally what can I say about breakfast... amazing! We would both happily recommend the Falcon to anyone who wants excellent food, excellent service and a lovely location. Thanks very much Falcon.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have amazing views of the churchyard and village. if they have the...

We stayed at the Falcon whilst visiting family, we stayed there because it is close by and what a gem we found! they are so hospitable. The food is really excellent, if you want eat in the evening it is best to book your table when you book your room they are very busy at times. The breakfast is one of the best we have had, if not the best, it was perfectly cooked and the sausage and bacon were high quality and the eggs free range. The rooms are comfortable and very clean, the bedding is good quality, feather duvets and pillows, the bed itself is was good, I don't usually sleep well when I am away but here I had a good nights sleep, We will be staying there again when we visit our family again.

I ofen book a hotel with trepidation, but went on good reviews elsewhere and booked a night at the Falcon Inn for my birthday. Everything was perfect - the room was large and whilst shabby chic is perhaps not my style, it was beautifully done and went well with the age and feel of this hotel. If you book an 18th hotel ( rebuilt then actually, the core is even older) then you must expect the character of uneven floors, low ceilings and a slight quirkiness. The bed was comfortable with lovely quality linen, the bathroom fine, the tea and coffee making facilities very welcome. Welcoming is the word I would use to describe this inn overall; the staff are truely amazing, they couldn't do enough for us, very warm, open and friendly, but highly efficient. The Falcon Inn is far from stuffy, which is the reason I usually hate country hotels. The food was quite exceptional in our opinion and made my birthday evening meal on the Saturday, very special indeed. I had the seabass and the pepper relish was wonderful with it, as were the crushed potatoes. My husband was equally pleased with his venison. We shared an olive and bread starter and the brownie and white choc mousse as we were so full! The breakfast next morning was equally fine in quality, beautifully cooked, fantastic quality everything, and the bread for the toast to die for. This total meal with wine only came to just over £60.00, which is remarkable for the standard, sometimes managed to pay this in a very substandard heat-up/frozen food sort of place. We will definately be back again, have already contacted one friend to see if she wants to go with her husband and make up a foursome in the Cotswolds for a weekend later this year.

Room Tip: Book well in advance and ask for one facing the churchyard!

We went for dinner.Service was a little distracted,we stood at the bar for quite a while without being acknowledged despite only one other person being at the bar.Plenty of staff, only one in the bar.The ham hock pâté starter was very good as was the steak and sea bass.It was a shame we weren't given home cut chips,French fries don't match up with the rest of the food.Puddings were average with crumble a bit anaemic and the Brioche pudding quite heavy.
Serving staff okay, but functional rather than friendly.
Having read the reviews I was a bit disappointed as only a bit above average.
