“A magic cottage in a magic place.”
Reviewed June 9, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

The location of this beautiful cottage is perfect to use as a base to explore the Cotswolds.
We stayed three nights and found the amenities worked really well and provides comfortable and spacious living, particularly enjoyable after a spell in typical hotel rooms.
Painswick is a gorgeous place to wander around and admire the old stone buildings and sample the local food and ales with friendly locals.
The decoration and modernisation of the cottage has been carried out thoughtfully and sympathetically, this includes leaving many of the original features as they were. The old, rural doors, stairs, fire and surrounds are fascinating.
This is the ultimate country cottage and with its' location and quaintness adds up to a unique and very pleasant experience.

“Perfect cottage and village for the Cotswolds experience”

My wife and I were here Nov 2014. We were completely comfortable in Autumn Cottage.

We found the cottage clean and very nicely decorated. The kitchen is well appointed and and was stocked with a nice "starter" selection of breakfast items. There are plenty of very nice plush towels in the bathrooms. The central heating works well and the fireplace in the living area is very nice on a chilly evening.

The owner was very communicative and helpful leading up to our visit and visited the cottage shortly after our arrival to make sure we were comfortable.

Painswick is very nice example of a typical Cotswolds village and the location is very convenient to Gloucester, Bristol, and the entire Cotswolds area.

Autumn Cottage is on a quiet street, has parking space, and is easy walking distance to an excellent pub and two very highly regarded restaurants. We heartily recommend the Royal Oak Inn as an excellent example of an authentic "old England" type of pub.

Highly recommended.

Liked least: Not enough time! Would loved to have stayed in Painswick for a longer period.

“Excellent! Charm, History, Comforts and Location”

We stayed for 3 nights in Sept. after a long flight from SFO. What a delight to settle in to such a charming cottage with so many amenities. The cottage captures all the character of centuries ago with current comforts considered. The generous hamper of breakfast makings was so appreciated and just delightful. Fine weather allowed us to sit at the front yard table both in the morning and afternoons. The private back patio was appealing as well. Fresh flowers, luxurious bath towels, loads of information and cute decor were a bonus. The location is great, just a short walk up from the village and very quiet. Simon of Cotswolds Airport Taxi Transfers, collected us at Heathrow and dropped us at our door for not much more than train fare and was many hours faster. We easily managed our whole stay without a car since so much was within walking distance. Utilizing the bus to get to the Stroud rail station was a breeze. As mentioned, taller guests will need to mind some low doorways (no problem for me at 5'3" though) and the stairway requires your attention as it is steep, but very functional. Painswick has so much to offer! We enjoyed some of our best meals, wonderful walks, Rococo gardens, friendly folks and plenty of history. I would agree it is the Queen of the the Cotswolds.

“Home away from home”
Reviewed May 28, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Location -
Painswick is really 'Queen of cotswold'. Quite centrally located in Cotswold and a lot of attractions are near by in fact rococo garden is literally on door step. Painswick is small village with warm people and two cozy restaurants serving authentic food and one village shop. Easy access to property and easy to drive in. A car is essential though. on 30-40 minutes drive there are beautiful places to visit like - burton on water, Bradford, Clearwell Caves, Cotswold wildlife park, cotswold waterpark.

Property -
Beautiful house, decorated with adore. Has everything you need away from home. Nice clean apartment with fresh sheets and towels. Clean wash areas and a small garden at the back. It has a beautiful working fireplace. Another good thing is it has two double beds both king/ super king sizes so, it was perfect for two couples as we were. We even had a toddler along and there was enough room to bring along travel cot. As all country cottages have, this also has a bit steep staircase and you need to be careful on them. Owner had left us basic necessities like - egg, butter, bread which was very thoughtful of him. Wi-fi works brilliantly though phone network doesnt work much in the area especially data.

I will definitely recommend the property for 2 - 4 people.

Regards,
Sarika

“Dream Cottage”
Reviewed April 17, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

My 28 year old Son and I are New Zealander's visiting England from Australia, we stayed for eight nights at Autumn Cottage and it was a home away from home. I had the attic room at the top of the stairs and it was luxurious and the bed was like I was sleeping on a cloud, I loved it so much! My Son was very comfortable in the first room up the stairs. The cottage had everything and more that we needed, and it was so warm, loved the decor throughout. We were able to explore a lot of villages in our week there and loved the location. The Owners were good at communicating with us before and during our stay.

“Cosy and cute - a breath of fresh air.”
Reviewed March 6, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We had a wonderful time at this cosy get away. Located in a quiet and peaceful road, Autumn Cottage bursts with character and offers a great home away from home. The cottage is equipped with everything you could need and has been appropriately kitted out with perfect fittings.

We were also delighted with the service and attention from the owners who catered to our needs, always with a prompt and friendly response. Thank you for looking after us as we looked after ourselves. I would certainly recommend this cottage again. Loved it!
