“A Gem of a place”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

We decided to stay her for our 20th wedding anniversary after reading the reviews. We decided to book by telephone so we could ask in more detail about the individual rooms. We were given in great detail the differing options on the rooms and we decided to plump for one of the more expensive and as we were booking early were given a discount off the advertised price on the internet for dinner bed and breakfast. When we arrived it was market day with limited parking at the front of the hotel. We decided to take a drive around the back of the high street and found a rear entrance which opens into a car park which has the rooms coming off it. We were greeted by friendly reception staff who explained the room was not ready yet. This was not a problem as we left the car in the car park and explored the lovely market and high street. On checking into the room we found a lovely bottle of Fizz with the compliments of the hotel as we were celebrating our anniversary.
The hotel has a lovely contemporary restaurant and the staff are extremely friendly and efficient. As we had booked a DB&B package we were expecting a limited offering / different menu, but was extremely surprised that the package offered the full menu. Needless to say that the food was all cooked to perfection and the portions were on the generous side. The atmosphere in the restaurant provided a lovely way to spend the evening.
The room we had was one of the largest we have had at a hotel with a separate seating area. The bed was 2 singles pushed together but still was comfortable. The bathroom was large and airy with a whirlpool bath. The only minor complaint I would have is that the hotel could do with getting a tradesman into the bathroom to sort out the mould that is starting to form in the sealant around the shower base and other areas in the bathroom before it gets to bad.
Overall this is a great place to stay to explore the lovely towns and villages of the Cotswolds and you will not be disappointed.

We stayed with friends for 3 nights. We had a superior room and it was excellent, as was all aspects of service, bar and meals. If I had one minor complaint it was that the bath was a bit small and the shower a bit weak.

Called in for a lunchtime meal Saturday 15th June. Restaurant has been refurbished to a very high standard. Very efficient service by smartly dressed and polite waitresses. Food was out of this world. I had a massive Lamb Shank with mash and vegetables. The lamb just fell off the bone. my wife had chicken and rice in a tomato based sauce and she said it was delicious too. We have stayed in the hotel on 3 previous occasions and have been well looked after each time. Very nice place to stay for central Cotswolds.

Room Tip: Detached rooms at rear are very quiet

We had a lovely overnight stay at the charming Redesdale Arms last weekend. Was a real treat, as we had picked up a Jensen Interceptor for the weekend to explore the Cotswolds and celebrate out wedding anniversary.
The room at the Redesdale Arms was lovely with a large bed and extras such as tea, coffee, cookies, bottled water and a decanter of sherry!! Soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion were supplied in the bathroom.
We had a drink in the bar followed dinner in the restaurant, with no complaints. The buffet styled breakfast was also really good. I only had cereal and toast but my husband went for the full English and thoroughly enjoyed it; plentiful and perfectly cooked.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and we will no doubt visit again in the future.

We have just returned from a weekend at the Redesdale Arms and I must say I was really disappointed. Having booked a deluxe room and paid £140 per night for the privilege I was expecting something above average. The room itself was off the courtyard and when we went in there was quite a musty smell. This is partly due to the fact that the extractor is the only ventilation in the bathroom and partly because, whilst there is a large French door, it has a metal chain on it, preventing it from being opened more than an inch or so. The television was already on too and this may be because it is actually quite difficult to switch on once off. The bathroom was small with a shower over the bath which worked well enough. The toiletries which we used on the first day were not replenished, which is not my experience in other hotels. The back of the bathroom door could seriously use a duster. The decanter of sherry was ok if you like sherry. The bed was large but was 2 singles put together with a rather hard ridge running down the middle. This is the practice in lots of hotels, but in other places they tend to put a padded mattress topper over the beds which makes it a lot more comfortable. We ate in the restaurant on the first evening. The meal was ok but nothing special for the money and the service pleasant and efficient enough. We went to the Spice Room restaurant across the road on the second evening. this was much better for less than half the price and I recommend it. At the hotel reception there are little promo booklets about the hotel. In them there is a picture of a deluxe room and it has a sitting area. On checkout I told the receptionist I was disappointed with the room and asked her why my deluxe room didn't have a sitting area. Apparently only the suites have sitting areas, which I said couldn't be the case because the picture was labelled as a deluxe room. If my room didn't have one, it should have had something equivalent, which it did not. I think this is misleading and would suggest that you check what you are getting for your money. The receptionist didn't offer a refund of any sort.

Decided on a last minute break to the Cotswolds and instead of staying at the Manor House Hotel in Moreton (where we had stayed on 2 seperate occasions)decided to not spend so much and chose the Redesdale Arms.
Big mistake! The rooms were shappy, stains on the carpet ,no seal at all round bath, chipped toilet seat and ugly pipes everywhere. For me the worst was the attitude of the receptionist. Her abrupt attitude when we checked in,her habit of talking to her collegue as if she was half sharp and calling her babe in a patronising manner!.Owner of this hotel take note-the receptionist is the first point of call when a guest arrives, they should be professional ,friendly and welcoming.A chap came to get his key and he looked appalled at her attitude.
On the plus point the breakfast was great and the breakfast staff very pleasant, also the receptionist who checked us out was very nice. The rooms were shabby but very clean.
It seriously needs an overhaul on the rooms though.
Recommend you pay abit more and stay at the Manor House Hotel-the rooms are great, the staff a delight and the service second to none.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room if they have one.

We stayed at the Redesdale Arms over a long holiday weekend as it is in a very central location for exploring the Cotswolds. One of the nice amenities was the off-street parking which was in the courtyard next to the annex of rooms where we stayed. There is a patio for dining / drinking on warm days that is also at one end of the courtyard. Surprisingly, the rooms were very well sound-proofed and we could not hear the merriment on the patio nor our neighbors on a very packed weekend. The rooms were spacious with lovely character with the heavy beams. It was clean and tidy. The little in room amenities were nice as well: The french press coffee, cookies, tea, complimentary sherry, bottled water, stand fan for those hot days and quality soaps / shampoo / lotion. However, the room is getting tired in terms of tears in the fabric of the armchair, stains on the bathroom counters, and nicks in the paint. Our biggest complaint was the bed -- I could feel the springs with every movement and we both had difficulty sleeping.

The hotel staff was friendly for the most part even though it was clearly a very busy weekend for them.

We ate in the restaurant for dinner and found the service lacking after they took our order -- they never refilled the water glasses nor asked if everything was to our satisfaction. The food was okay (not great) but the dessert took over 45 minutes to arrive and what was on the plate tasted more like cardboard rather than sticky toffee pudding. It seemed like patrons were enjoying the pub food better than the restaurant meals.

Breakfast was better -- good selection of English Breakfast standards, cereals, yogurt and fruit. The toast was slow to arrive both days we ate there but it was a busy time. My only suggestion for improvement for breakfast would be to put the juices and milk in a different location rather than on a table that is only 12 inches away from the buffet. It created an awkward bottleneck between those who were trying to get their food and those getting drinks.

I think that the Redesdale Arms has some very good aspects to recommend it but that it could do with some room updates to be better.
