“Should be better”

Went for a weekend stay as one of a party of 8 adults, 2 youngsters and 1 baby. I think we were all somewhat disappointed with the quality and upkeep of what was described as a luxury property. Internally the bedrooms are a mix of sizes with only two being truly en-suite and all with quite poor mattresses and bedding. The 'master suite' has no opening windows and was unbearably hot on arrival, although it did cool down later in the evening. The living area is fine but the kitchen lacked items such as kitchen roll and washing-up liquid, which I believe should be supplied in accommodation of this size and expense, along with sufficient matching crockery and cutlery. A BBQ would have been nice. Externally our main issue was with the pile of pigeon droppings on the decking outside the main living area. 'Don't do this' and 'don't do that' notices are all well and good but it is difficult to explain to an autistic child not to walk in pigeon droppings because they might be transferred to the carpets! Better to provide clean accommodation in the first place. A call to the agent resulted only in the excuse that the droppings were from protected swifts nests. No they weren't, they were a pair of white pigeons/doves who sat in the architect designed roof apex. Which could have been closed off with a piece of netting. Sitting on the outside deck did not give a lakeside view due to overgrown trees, bushes and undergrowth although I appreciate regular cutting back might be a challenge. Finally I would mention to prospective clients that the houses are very close together and thus can be subject to a lot of noise from adjacent properties. It is really a place for families and I can see might be a lot of fun for kids but any suggestion that it is a 'luxury experience' depends on your viewpoint.

Management Response
Feb 10, 2018
This review is NOT for No. 92 Howells Mere, but a previous property called MUNTJAC Lodge which we have now ceased to market. We used the same listing template, which has unfortunately has also inadvertently carried over the review for the old listings. We have asked TA to correct this, but are still awaiting for a response.

No. 92 is a brand-new addition to our portfolio and is a fantastic 4 bedroom cottage, with onsite spa facilities.

Sorry for any confusion caused.

“Great spot for family celebration for all ages”
Reviewed February 8, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We spent a lovely weekend at Muntjac Lodge. Booking was simple. Jamie was delightful and helpful upon our arrival. The house was light and airy and very cosy with the fire burring at night. There is still quite a bit to be finished on the estate in terms of building but the spa, gym and park were ideal for the family and we took a lovely stroll to a local pub. Highly recommended.
The only issue we had is there is no phone signal or free wifi which caused some stress. Even the paid wifi was very intermittent.

“Luxury lodge, best estate location'”
Reviewed November 22, 2013 for a stay in November 2013

Our eighth trip to Lower Mill, and first in Muntjac. Great location, looking out very privately to a natural lake on the parkland. Best feature of the house was the bi-fold doors from the lounge, opening up the terrace. We sat there all morning! All the facilities and equipment you need and very spacious. Not as funky in decor as the other houses we have stayed in, a bit bland on the decor front but very fresh, new and spotlessly clean. Super top floor bathroom and super comfy beds. Recommended, thank you.
