“Excellent as Always...”

Stayed 3 nights last week in the Hayloft, Room 5 (although all the rooms are good) spacious, romantic room. I always love those extra complimentary touches of tissues, cotton buds, cotton wool pads etc and a good pile of books - after a great meal and drinks in the bar read a good book in a sumptious bed watching the flat screen TV and drift off to a good night's sleep zzzzz Anne & Dave are great hosts, just the right balance - they're there when you need them but not "in your face" when you don't! Great rooms, great central location - just stay there! :)

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but Room 5 is bigger, if you're staying there for more than 1 night

We stayed with Ann and David for just one night with no previous information about their venue. An excellent location near to Cirencester town centre, a lovely couple and a very enjoyable breakfast all round . The beer is great too with some Arkells specials on board and a lovely evening meal too. The room was very comfortable and even with some difficulties with heating they did everything to make our stay great. Visit them soon !

The room was lovely, the owners couldn't have been more friendly and the shower was excellent. Breakfast was good, both for me and my vegetarian husband. We asked for a hairdrier and one was found for us straight away. It's a great location and lots of parking space. Will definitely stay again and have recommended it already!

Whilst the location of this pub is excellent just off the main high street, the room was brilliant and clean but the pub itself a bit of a let down. Went and had a drink before going to the party at the local football club but only had the one as it was cold in the pub, went down the road to the Waggon & Horses as this was more welcoming with a good log burner. A shame because the bording rooms were lovely!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 2

We booked the Talbot over the phone, carefully discussing the size of beds and arrival time, and booking a room with a King size. But when we arrived we were shown to a poky little room with a tiny bed. So the lady who greeted us, after some kerfuffle, put us back into the room we had booked – much to the Landlord’s very obvious disgust when he arrived. And when I asked for a towel, I was met with theatrical sighs worthy of a well known 70’s sit-com, as if I was the most unreasonable guest this decade. OK, so he’d forgotten them, no big deal – but blaming me was not a good welcome.

While I hesitate to state that the bed was damp (I have no measuring device to prove it) it felt incredibly cold and clammy. We put the radiator on (the room was cold, too) and draped the duvet over it for two hours – that helped a lot. But the room then smelt so damp we needed the window wide open – actually no trouble, as to close it needed a sharp bang from the outside. After 3 days it all felt much better – so much so that the bathroom door stopped sticking. A mixed blessing, as its catch was missing.

So why did we stay on? Well, it’s well placed in Cirencester; the bed, once aired, was large and comfortable; it was reasonably quiet at night; the room had its own front door in the yard, so we didn’t have to brave the Landlord every time we came in and out; and the breakfasts were OK (once you got past the portion control on the fruit juice). Cirencester has a very good range of eateries within easy walking distance (I recommend the Thai and the Italian), so we didn’t sample the Talbot’s suppers. I suspect the other rooms were more frequently used, so maybe better aired.

Is this all we should expect for the price? Whatever the price, I expect a booking to be honoured, the room and bed to be aired, and the Landlord to be civil – even, hopefully, friendly and helpful. If we had had those, this would have been a positive review.

Would I go again? Not without hot-water-bottles.

Please read this review even if you read no others. We stayed at the Talbot Inn recently as we were attending a wedding in the local area.

The place was massively overgrown from the outside and looked as though it could do with some much needed TLC! The rooms were digusting and didn't look as though it had been cleaned properly in a while. As the bed is the most important part of any stay, I was utterly shocked to feel hundreds of springs creating what can only be desribed as a bed of nails. It was like a bed from the dark ages and had not been replaced for years and years, we did not sleep a wink all night. The place was like a icebox and we weren't able to turn on the heating as the whole system had been switched off, I honestly think that we would have been better off sleeping in the car!

When we approached the owner's in the morning and bought to their attention that the bed was extremely uncomfortable we got a tirade of abuse from a person that we can only assume was the landlady. She was a horrible woman and clearly on the defensive about the bed situation. She spitted "If you want a better bed then go and stay in a hotel down the road and not a b&b". Since when were hotels the only places to have decent beds. The man who took my payment lied to us and said they were brand new beds..... also on the defensive!

We pity anyone who stays here and has to go through what we went through and will be very suprised if this place stays in business much longer. If we had some sort of apology or explanation for our discomfort...... just some basic customer service would have been nice, the outcome could have been different.

Good luck Talbot Inn.....You're gonna need it!!

We work hard for our money and don't expect to be treated like this for £80 per night! If you have any sense, PLEASE DON'T STAY HERE!!

Great hospitality: owners are extremely friendly and helpful and make you feel at home away from home. Loved the breakfast that was included in our room price. Rooms could use refurbishing but are clean and decent, parking is directly on site and the Inn is located just a few steps away from the city centre. We'll be back!
