We stopped at the Royal Oak whilst cycling around the cotswolds with families and found it a very welcoming pub

They were able to deal at short notice with a large group of 8 adults and 7 children with a friendly welcome and a positive attitude - this can be quite refreshing in the Cotswolds as we've certainly not had always had a good experience.

There was space to lock up bikes out the front although we were also able to take some through in to the back yard.

Food was of a good standard and fairly priced we thought. Most of us ate from their lunch menu which was very well cooked across the board. They also had a more elaborate menu available.

There is a decent sized beer garden out the back for those who prefer eating and drinking outdoors.

Dined there recently and had to send back a glass of wine which tasted and smelt absolutely horrible. Admitted it was half full when I sent it back as I had one big gulp at first and then passed it around to see if I was right. Waitress took it back and brought me a different wine which was OK. Was surprised to see that they had charged me for both glasses, one at £5.60 and one at £5.90. I deducted the first one from the bill before paying. Bar staff said I would have to pay for both as there was nothing wrong with the first one. I declined and was threatened with the police! They never turned up surprisingly. If the restaurant had rung the police over a matter such as this I feel sure that the police would not have been impressed. Threats like this are totally unnecessary. What happened to "the customer is always right?" Having spent over £160 on the total bill (including a tip) I was not impressed and would therefore not recommend this restaurant. The choice of food was very limited in any event and not that good for the prices being charged. We asked if the bread and butter pudding was home made and were told that it was. I've never seen anything like the one served to us, it was totally unrecognisable as bread and butter pudding.

Visited for Sunday lunch mid October 13. Sunday menu was not extensive but had 3 roasts, duck, fish and veggie available. Roast beef was excellent as was loin of pork and duck breasts. All come with freshly cooked veg and a variety of potatoes. Puds were good too. All in all an very good place for lunch enhanced by some very helpful staff. Restaurant area is roomy with not too many tables. Only 1 gripe - pse change the door bell chime which is noisy and rung when food is ready - it can be very annoying - other than that an excellent lunch

We were at table of 10 on a busy Saturday night and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Home style cooking on the menu and great real ale and cider on tap. A roaring fire sets the tone, it's a home-from-home venue with smiling, attentive staff. No reflection on the staff here but the taxi situation in Cirencester beggars belief - £15 minimum fare! We would return but would nominate a driver!

We visited here for lunch one Saturday after reviews on tripadvisor. The lunch menus was a little limited but there were interesting choices. The starters we absolutely superb. Devilled kidneys and Camembert (to share). The mains we had varied. Duck, venison, chicken and trout. All were lovely albeit a tad too much salt on the trout and pepper on the venison. The poor thing was that the oyster mushrooms we had withdrew venison were still gritty, a shame because the dish was lovely otherwise. Having said all that, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere unbeatable! We would go back. Love to try the evening meal. You could not want for a nicer atmosphere and welcoming hosts. Defininitly worth going.
