Owner description: The Corinium Museum is located at the heart of Cirencester the 'Capital of the Cotswolds'. Its principal collection consists of the highly significant finds from the Roman town of Corinium. However the museum today is much more than that, taking the visitor on a journey through time and charting the development of the Cotswolds from its prehistoric landscape to the modern day. The light and modern galleries offer the visitor an exceptional interactive experience. The museum is renowned for its learning provision, with an education centre and temporary exhibition space that ensure a vibrant, changing programme of events and activities for everyone to enjoy.

“Outstanding Museum covering all Roman activities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

Very impressed with this museum, I had not realised that Cirencester was the second largest Roman city after London, responsible for the English South West. Very detailed presentation of all Roman history and society. About 12 lovely mosaics. Also good displays of all the history of the area from stone age to Victorian. Layout and displays were very well designed and modern.

“Excellent Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

We went here today with my sister and her husband. What an excellent place to spend a few hours learning some local history. There were lots of young schoolchildren there, which was great to see (if a little noisy).
There is so much to see and learn, so this could well be somewhere that we will have to revisit.

“Fabulous Murals and fascinating layout of 2000 years of human activity.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

Corinium Museum in Cirencester is a jewel in its presentation of the history of the area. The building is light and airy, artefacts are grouped in easily manageble 'bitesized' areas - though you need a lot more than an hour to cover it all in detail. Lots of interactive 'stations' for young and older interests and a lift to take older 'joints' to the upper floor. Will revive (or create) an interest in the Roman 'occupation' of Britain and proved a welcome addition to a visit to Chedworth Roman Villa and mosaics.

“Interesting, well laid out museum - needs a bigger cafe area!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

Museum that is well worth a visit from anyone with any interest in history, especially of the Romans. A lot of excellent exhibits, with informative descriptions and a good array of computerised things for kids (and the not so young!). Recommend a time when it is not too busy, though, as too many children would be noisy and too many people generally would clog up the sight of the notices.
It was so good we decided to have lunch in the on-site cafe and then finish the exhibits, but there was nowhere to sit. Finished our tour instead and, now famished, tried again (now 2pm): still no seats! Find some more space, guys!
