Owner description: The Corinium Museum is located at the heart of Cirencester the 'Capital of the Cotswolds'. Its principal collection consists of the highly significant finds from the Roman town of Corinium. However the museum today is much more than that, taking the visitor on a journey through time and charting the development of the Cotswolds from its prehistoric landscape to the modern day. The light and modern galleries offer the visitor an exceptional interactive experience. The museum is renowned for its learning provision, with an education centre and temporary exhibition space that ensure a vibrant, changing programme of events and activities for everyone to enjoy.

“Terrific little museum”

What a treat this place is for history lovers of all ages. You have to pay to get in, but it's not too much (about a fiver for an adult, less each on a discounted family ticket), and it's so worth it. The Roman mosaics and artefacts recovered from the Cirencester area are absolutely stunning, and very well displayed. There are interactive, child-height things at many of the displays (I tried and failed to do the mosaic jigsaw, though later I saw a 10-year-old make a better attempt) and the explanations are very clear. It covers the pre- and post- Roman periods too, right up to 18th/19th century Cirencester. Nice café and toilets, good situation in town centre, and incorporates the tourist information office. A brilliant visit.

“Excellent museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

Excellent museum for anyone interested in Roman Britain. Some wonderful mosaic floors & interesting local finds. There are also plenty of local 'timeline' artefacts. Plenty of 'hands on' activities for children & space to get around for children in buggies & people in wheelchairs & lift to get upstairs. The cost is reasonable & you can easily spend a couple of hours there. The cafe is defiantly worth a visit - amazing sandwich cakes & great value

“Good for local people”

Went to this museum because other TripAdvisor reviews were so positive. My husband, two sons (11 and 8) thought it was quite dull and really only relevant for anyone living in the Cirencester area.

“very good museum”

This is a small museum and can be visited in an hour or two. It is interesting for small children as well as for serious historians and everyone in between .
