We have been meaning to visit this restaurant for a while and luckily had some time inbetween Christmas and New Year.

We hadn't reserved a table, but were welcomed in and sat by the window. We ordered a selection of bread followed by roasted cod on crushed peas and potatoes. Beautifully presented and very tasty. For desert I had Christmas pudding creme brule which had a lovely subtle cinamon flavour and my husband had bread and butter pudding. The portions weren't huge, but perfectly enough for a lovely delicious lunch. It was quiet when we first arrived, but it soon filled up - I can see this is a popular place to bring friends and family. The prices were extremely good too.

We will definitely be returning to this delightful restaurant - bit of a hidden gem!

Table booked for 6 people, only 1 waitress but handled the 6 tables of 20 diners perfectly, very well presented 2 course luncheon which was very well cooked and was delicious. portion sizes just right and came away feeling nicely full. The bill came to £25 a head for 3 courses, 2 bottles of wine drinks on arrival and a bottle of water. Very good value for the standard of food
I had mackerel pate & salad to start and Confit of duck with celeriac puree and jus reduction which was heavenly

Beautifully presented and cooked food wonderfully attentive service without being intrusive. I really like the selection of wine although some of it is a bit overpriced. The armangnac list seems to have shrunk a little but the best is really nice

Having eaten here before we looked forward to our visit, however on this occasion our experience was average at best....

First of all we simply ordered water for the table, this took too long-we had to enquire a second time and eventually received it 10-15 mins later.

Next was the starters, two of our orders were from the 'blackboard' specials and one of which a chef special salad this arrived in a chipped bowl and basically consisted of mixed salad leaves with nothing much else....very dry, lacking dressing and the ingredients stated on the menu barely existed.

Another was a duck terrine-although the terrine itself was very nice, it was again very dry served on its own with grated celeriac.......where was the chutney?? Or the toast??-it wasn't good enough to be served alone. DRY DRY DRY!!

The final starter was the salmon mousse, three servings of the mousse with just one tiny bit of crusty bread (smaller than each of the mousse portions) this again was nice in itself but AGAIN lacked the finishing touches and quite frankly became sickly without the necessary extras.

As for the main course, we were firstly disappointed to learn that one of only five dishes on offer had run out....at 8pm??!! This should NEVER happen so early in the evening on a Saturday night....

We all had the lamb shoulder and I must say we all enjoyed it very much and back to the standard we expected, however the jus that accompanied this was minimal and after the dry starters we requested extra source to save the meal...it came after a lengthy wait and rescued the course.

Staff were friendly yet not extremely helpful and offered no apologies when pointing out the chipped dish.....overall experience was DISAPOINTING......

As a side note the toilets had ran out of hand towel.

Having eaten at this restarant before we were very much looking forward to our dinner on Saturday evening but unfortunately we were not impressed and very disappointred. We arrived just before 8pm after being asked if we would iike a drink wed were left for 15 minutes before anything arrived, we were given the menu's but told that one dish out of a selection of 5 main courses was already no longer available (not impressed with that).

Our starters came and again we we disappointed my husband had ordered a chef's 'Special' salad off the blackboard menu which consisted of a handful salad leaves two halves of cherry tomatoes, 2 small cubes of blue cheese and very little dressing and to finish it off was served in a white bowl with a large chip on the rim. We brought this to the waitresses attention but she did not seem to take much notice. One of our party ordered the Salmon Mousse which came with just the minutest round of hard toasted bread, mousse is rich so you need bread to accompany it but we had to puchased a basket of bread to go with it, the duck terrine was acceptable but again very dry no chutney or bread to go with that either.

Main courses main were acceptable but again on the dry side. Unfrotunately this experience has put us off and we will not be frequenting this restaurant again, we have eate at other nice restaurants in cheltenham with better quality food and value for money
