We had booked an early evening meal for 6.00 but by 5.00 were freezing in our boots. We turned up an hour early - no problem to the staff who quickly found us a table.
Decor in the Cafe Rouge chain is beginning to look a little jaded but hey! we didn't go for the wallpaper!
A busy restaurant with tables maybe a little too close for comfort.
It was very noisy and full of late afternoon sales shoppers (we think - lots of Hobbs carrier bags around anyway)
However we were served promptly - starters of pate and a salad with walnuts and blue cheese were delicious.
His fish casserole (Bouillabaise?) was thoroughly enjoyed. My Chicken tagine was very ordinary and somewhat lacking in flavour.
We didn't do desserts but enjoyed a bottle of house red - no complaints there.
The real downside was the coffee - undrinkable and absolutely awful. Come on Cafe Rouge, you're supposed to be French and they know,or should know, how to make a decent coffee .
Still for around £55 we left a lot warmer and we saved some money - by the time we left the shops were all closed!
