We prefer to stay in a traditional local hotel with character rather than a standard hotel chain & this hotel fitted the bill perfectly. we stayed in a standard double, quite a large room with small sofa to relax in & large comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast cooked to order. Staff friendly & happy to help to make your stay enjoyable. We had family visiting us for lunch at hotel restaurant with young children & Scott made all welcome & catered for the young children which was much appreciated. Food was really good, we had pizza's & they were made to order & were delicious. Hotel within walking distance of 'The Brewery' cinema & eateries complex & the high street....which was ideal to be central. We would definately visit again when next in Cheltenham.

A big thanks to Scott and Zoe, very friendly and great fun, made us feel so very welcome.
I understand there are a range of contemporary and older style rooms, ours was in the latter category, a little tired but unusual and full of character.
The food was a real highlight, good breakfast, but its the evening menu in the Joules Restaurant that impressed, one of the best rack of ribs I have ever had and Katie was equally taken with the Wild Boar Burger.....well done Chef...
We will stay again, if in the area, for all the above reasons and due to the central location, just a few minutes walk into town....I would recommend to people who like a hotel that is friendly, relaxed and not a souless corporate.

Room Tip: Just ask...front of house team are very helpful and will be able to offer a range of types of room.

We stayed for one night in the hotels apartment which is just a short walk away. Really well furnished and nicely decorated. The second night was in a four poster room, again, fabulous. Warm welcome, great service! We really enjoyed our stay but unfortunately have not been able to secure a room since! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: We think all the rooms are great!

Recently returned from a pleasant weekend away at the Clarence Court. We chose it because it was within walking distance of the town and had on site parking. Staff all very friendly, location is ideal and nearby restaurants. Hotel restaurants I am always wary of because of their value / quality, but it was jolly cold outside so decided to eat in. The food was really good quality and at prices you would find in restaurants around town rather than inflated ones that hotels often charge. Breakfast was really good too.
Room was excellent, large comfortable double bed, recently refurbished bathroom. Could do with a clock. Tea and coffee making facilities and a good TV. Room also had a settee in it.
Would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Had a standard double room

All in all the level of service was great.

The welcome friendly, the room faultless and the breakfast superb. The latter catered for all tastes and options.

This is somewhere we choose to use regularly and will continue without concern. We recommend this hotel to friends whenever asked.

Just returned from a one night stay to celebrate a Wedding Anniversary and birthday, We booked two family rooms one was at the top, one at the bottom which were a good size and slept five in each room. Two of our elder children would have preferred proper beds rather than a sofa and z bed and the older children 10 to 22 struggled with one bathroom but that's entirely our problem and not the hotels and we have thought that next time we would be better booking twin and triple rooms as the price would be reflective.

Overall we had a comfortable basic stay with a lovely breakfast and really nice pizzas.

There were a few niggles with things which could be resolved to make an improvement.

1 Put a lock on the downstairs family en suite door to make it private, we had to share with three children.
2 Drinking water in rooms (bottles or a jug) we never asked and went to bed late.
3 We felt we disappointed the restaurant manager who had reserved a table for us all by only ordering a few pizzas and chips from the menu, but that was their speciality and we were keen to try them. We were only after a light bite after having had a big lunch.(We were on a family reunion and our eldest Son took hold of our weekend itinerary, he had booked us a lunch out and trip to the racecourse) The Pizzas were divine and we are so glad we had them.
4 We were surprised to find a big dog in one of the downstairs rooms and hoped that previous dogs had not been in our room as we were travelling with a young toddler who spends a lot of time crawling on the floor. Hopefully there are set 'dog' rooms.

Room Tip: There is no lift so perhaps request a room on the ground floor or carry smaller cases. We struggled...

Dear Caroline

Thank you for your review. I am very glad you generally enjoyed your stay. With regard to the points that you raised

1. Some years ago we had feedback that having locks on the family room bathrooms was not a good idea as children can get locked in. After careful consideration we decided to remove them as a precaution.

2. Bottled water or jugs of water can be supplied on request.

3. A table of 10 (in a 40 seater restaurant) on a Saturday night is quite valuable to any restaurant and on this Saturday we turned a number of reservations down due to your booking. While we do not operate a minimum cover charge, 3 pizzas and 3 portions of chips was a disappointing spend for us. I am however very sorry that you noticed the managers disappointment he should have been professional enough to take it in his stride.

4. We accept pets and we have a small number of rooms that are available to be allocated for people travelling with pets. We have a 'pet' dyson which is very efficient at hoovering all hairs away. We also have a specific cleaning regime which is followed after the room is occupied by a dog. The majority of our rooms are not allocated to pets and readers who have any worries about allergies should ring us and we can allocate one of these.

Thanks again for you review and we hope to see you again soon

Regards

Chris

We wanted a couple of days away not too far from home, and decided on Cheltenham. We chose the Clarance Court, because it had free parking and was in walking distance of the town and prices were reasonable. Pictures on the website also looked attractive. We were deilghted with the hotel. From the minute we arrived the staff made us feel welcome. The room, recently refurbished, was very tastefully done and was spotless. We had our evening meal in the restauant attached to the hotel, food was superb as was breakfast next morning. Bed was very comfortable. We would certainly go back and would recommend it to anyone. T

Room Tip: Ask for the refurbished room if possible. Generally hotel was very quiet anyway, so don't think...
