Owner description: Prescott Hill Climb, based just outside of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, is home to one of the world's most prestigious motor racing venues. Set in 60 acres of glorious Cotswold countryside, the estate not only provides a beautiful setting for a range of classic car and bike weekends, but also hosts major motor racing championships. The Bugatti Owners Club was established in 1929 for all motoring enthusiasts regardless of what type of vehicle you drive. The Club is based at Prescott and purchased the estate in 1937, converting the muddy, rutted drive into a speed hiil climb in time for the opening rally in April 1938. The 1127 yard course rises over 200 feet via short straights, fast and slow corners and a breathtaking hairpin, with the fastest modern racing cars completing the course in an exciting 36 seconds. The action can be viewed from strategic points along the course as well as from the restaurant terrace. Visitors and competitors alike can enjoy an exhilarating days racing plus vintage cavalcades up the Hill. Whether you are a competitor, a car or bike enthusiast or someone who just likes a day out in beautiful surroundings Prescott is the place for you.

Have memories of this place, as far back as I can remember, though I don’t attend anything like as much as I once did (Due to a lack of time). I have spectated and competed here and am still a (Non owning) member of the Bugatti Owners Club, who run Prescott.

It’s fair to say that the facilities at Prescott are second to none and due to the layout, viewing is hard to beat (Cars are in view here longer than at most places). The return road, whereby competing cars can return to the paddock, means that more cars can be entered, since hill action is not interrupted by cars needing to run back down the hill, to the paddock. On a Sunny day, the location is hard to beat and due to the actions of medieval strip farmers, the member cars park is nicely terraced!!

Due to a long standing agreement, the Vintage Sports Car Club hold a meeting every year at Prescott (And they still use the original 1938 Short Course) and I must say this is still very much a favourite of mine and something in which I should very much like to take part, should an eligible (Pre WW2) car ever come my way!!

At the other end of the scale, are the modern racing cars (With all manner and ages of cars in between), with which I am now out of touch but so far as I know, they still out accelerate contemporary F1 cars, up to 100 mph (They used to at any rate); suffice to say they are fast and because you stand closer to the track, than at a circuit, you get a greater impression of speed.

If you would like to sample speed hillclimbing, Prescott is a great place to have a look.

We have been to Prescott several times. It is simply steeped in history and is the HQ of the Bugatti Owners Club. It has the most amazing atmosphere. There are few venues these days where you can wander freely amongst the cars in the paddock and talk to the competitors .
it's a great track for spectators. There are many vantage points giving panoramic views of the track. Take a picnic on a sunny day - it's a wonderful day out set in glorious cotswold countryside close to the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire steam railway.
If you enjoy the spectacle of speed hill climbs, then this is one of the very best.

Prescott is a bit of a throwback even if some of the cars competing are very much state of the art.

There is good access to the cars and drivers and the action runs well through the day. There are around half a dozen meetings through the year including rounds of the British hill climb championship and a Vintage & Sports Car Club event.

A good day out for the family.
