I know this whole Downton Abbey thing is overdone but there is some of that vibe here. The building is very historical and the restoration into a hotel was done very well. It's great just to wander around the hotel and the grounds are beautiful too. The rooms are excellent and the breakfast is great.

It's a little outside Cheltenham so you will probably need to have your own transport.

This hotel should be a lot better than it is.
The location and the buildings are great however they are not making the best of the opportunity through badly trained staff and poor attention to the detail needed to deliver a first class experience for their guests.
The non visible management need to start walking the floors with their eyes open as the issues are clear to see.

We stayed here one night while touring the Cotswolds. We did have some trouble finding it, but once we got there, we were charmed. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, they showed us personally to our delightful room and made a reservation for us in the Brasserie. The room was very posh, with a comfy bed, heated floor in the bathroom and heated towel rods, and a separate water closet and shower with excellent pressure. We only stayed one night so we didn't use the spa, but the experience was lovely. The building is beautiful with lovely grounds and view. I would definitely recommend staying here.

We spent last Sunday at this lovely enchanting property. We booked in our lunch with their restaurant. it was half empty when we arrived and the private room was full of clients celebrating a special occasion. The service was very slow, it took for ever to get our orders...The maitre'D recommended the lamb, this proved to be smelly, bland, greasy and stodgy. Although the cuisine has good potentials as to presentation and decor, but the flavour was not amazing, i gathered that they did not want to invest in using good expensive ingredients as means to cut down on costs. The bread was not crispy enough and the oil/butter used in baking had a funny after taste. The starter were quails, these were quite good and pleasant to the palate, very nicely presented. The vegetables although were fresh, the cooking oil or butter used to saute them is again cheap and gave them an awful after taste. The desert was sickly sweet and again the butter used in preparing it left a bad after taste that i had to leave half of it in my plate.
The service on the whole was pretty good, staff polite and helpful. The management need to invest properly in a good chef to create nice dishes to go with the environment and the use of good expensive ingredients to help the cooking become tasty and pleasant to the palate. The stay was enjoyable had it not been to the disappointing meal.

Having a commanding view over the surrounding country side, this 1560s hotel has an quirky mix of design having been added to over the years. We stayed in the main part of the hotel in the tower and our room was large, well furnished and spotlessly clean.
We stayed for dinner, breakfast and a spar and had a fantastic time. The food was top quality, beautifully presented and cooked.
The staff were polite and really friendly and helpful. No inside pool but the outside pool was heated and it was quite novel having a swim in the rain.
Full marks to this hotel, well worth its 5 stars!
