I stayed here with my husband and some friends last weekend. It was an impromptu get away for the night. We did not have much time to spare so we didn't get to truly savour the delights of this hotel (didn't eat there for example) however it was remarkable enough for me to want to post something about it.
The hotel is new and I found it via the Alistair Sawdays website but booked direct as it was very last moment. The interior decor is fantastic, exposed floor boards, double sinks, double open showers, free standing bath etc. The gorgeous industrial style lighting must have set this place back a small fortune alone.
The welcome was warm and almost everything had been thought of. There is an honesty bar with very comfortable reception areas, a small courtyard and a roaring fire. The breakfast bar came complete with continental breakfast options as well as Gaviscon and paracetamol. The bedroom had everything you could need (except milk).
Only two small drawbacks from our stay...
The coffee at breakfast was 'on top', I mean really, go to all that effort, then charge extra for decent coffee? Bit bizarre, but the room I did think was good value at £100 for the night (possibly a last minute rate..?)
And, Music was pumping out of the drawing room when we arrived (I liked that) but unfortunately it was never switched off an our room was directly above which meant that my husband had to sleep with ear plugs in as there was no-one to ask, and no obvious way of shutting it off at 2am when we were off to sleep.
But it was gorgeous and I think it would really suit couples (they don't have any twin bed rooms)... not sure how far it is from the bars/restaurants of the town though.
