A good statue but it faces a distant office block, as if Holst was conducting the intrusive modern building. Why doesn't he face the Promenade? Pleasant park surrounds the statue.

I did a review of the Imperial Gardens and pretty much only mentioned the statue so thought I’d put a note in here as well. Good statue. Great man. Well done Cheltenham.

Gustav Holst was born in Cheltenham in 1874. He is perhaps best known for being the composer of The Planets. The life-size bronze statue and fountain in which it stands, can be found in the beautiful Imperial Gardens, near the Queens Hotel.

The statue of Gustav Holst in the stunning Imperial Gardens of Cheltenham marks the birthplace of this wonderful composer. The statue stands above a beautiful fountain and gives a real sense of history of the town.

This statue is easily missed as it is in one corner of the Imperial Gardens and it is surrounded by a small pool and very tall grasses. There is seating around and the statue itself is very beautiful.
