Description: A traditional country 17th Century inn situated in the Cotswolds only 15 minutes drive from Cheltenham, Gloucester and Cirencester. The Green Dragon Inn continually proves to be a popular retreat for those appreciating good food, fine wines and real ales. Set in the countryside for a relaxing experience and great walks from the door.On a fine day, sit outside amongst the honeysuckle and hanging baskets or on colder days relax by the log fires in our Oak beamed bars. Browse over our extensive menu and daily changing specials board, where our chef uses his creativity in producing “pub food with a difference"One of our special features of the pub is the ‘Mouse Bar’. The furniture and the bars themselves have been made by Robert Thompson, the famous ‘Mouse Man of Kilburn’ with small mice running all over the hand carved chairs, tables and mantelpiece! To complement the food there is a wine list notable for its range and value. We also have a good selection of fine ales; Hook Norton, Otter, Doom Bar and GL Cider. Nine comfortable bedrooms are individually furnished to a high standard, all with their own en-suite bathroom. The rooms are all doubles and twins, and extra beds for children can be provided if needed. In addition we have the St. George’s Suite and has its own sitting room. Also an ideal venue for weddings.

“Quintessential.”

Think Cotswold. Think old traditional pub/eatery. Then this is it. Really nice food but if you book ask for the upper bar which is much more cosier.

“From a movie set but delighted its real life!”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Holy mackerel! This is The Pub that is in every movie that depicts true English Country Pubs....and so grateful to have experienced it in real life! After booking into the accommodation for the night, I knew we were going to be staying at the Inn and ensured we booked dinner. Could not have had a more lovely meal. When you arrive, the pub looks very charming...and old...and the road to get here is a bit off the beaten path...fortunately, there are plenty of signs on the main road and when you turn onto where it is located...when you walk in the Main pub, you have a choice of going either left or right. To the right, you walk through a gorgeous wooden door, into a movie set type bar area with a huge fireplace that you can practically stand in. The fire was going and we were met by the present managers/owners who got us drinks and we settled in to the chairs and tables, chatting for quite sometime. When you come in to the pub and go to the left, you enter a dining area as well, with another portion of the bar and another fireplace...equally as charming. We ate dinner and while the pub for a mid week became quite crowded, it was absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere simply dazzling. True England at its best. Chatter, drinks, divine food (we ordered Risotto, steaks, and Sticky Toffee Pudding with homemade sauce and it was gorgeous. Great value for money. You DO generally get what you pay for....and I mustn't forget the homemade Leek and Potato soup. Simply heavenly! I absolutely, without a doubt, recommend this pub for dinner.....truly worth the drive and DEFINETLY would book first!

“Make sure you book!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

This is a favourite place for us for Sunday lunches and the occasional dinner. We last went there yesterday with (it has to be said) sometimes difficult-to-please elderly relatives. The (mostly roast) meals passed with flying colours and the generosity of helpings and variety of vegetables went down very well.

We all had puddings too (mostly sticky toffee pud :-) ) and there were clean plates all round. Their children's menu is short but they have been very accommodating in the past and did smaller portions of their main meals too.

Staff are very cheerful and helpful and the decor is unspoilt - a classic Cotswolds pub with open fires and beams. Just make sure, especially if you go at the weekend, that you book in advance. One of the tables near us had 3 sittings while we were there.

Got to stop writing now as it's making me feel hungry and it's HOURS till dinner time...
