As we sat down someone tried to warn us that the coffee was unpleasant. Unfortunately she was trying to say it inconspicuously and so we were unsure what she said. As soon as we tasted the coffee we realised, it was weak and tasteless and the cakes we tried weren't much better. We should have complained but we had already had to have all our drinks remade because the cups had dishwasher salt residue on them. We felt we did not want to make a scene. We will not go back and felt we wasted our money - what a shame. Bourton-on-the-Water was lovely, we would go back there.

Couldn't fault this place in any way. Would return there without hesitation, lovely! Fantastic location right by the river.

We were visiting Bourton on the Water last Sunday and, after reading the other reviews, decided we would like a slice of this Fawlty Towers experience for a bit of entertainment. We were pleasantly surprised by the cheerful chap who showed us to our table. Yes, we had to order from the counter, but that was no big issue, as it is only a Café anyway. We both had very nice Coffee and a tasty Teacake for him and Millionaire's Shortbread for myself. All the staff were very friendly towards us and we wouldn't hesitate in going back.

I wish we'd read the other Trip Advisor reviews before we visited this place! This cafe is indeed in a nice location but the service is awful. There was no welcome on our arrival - only a woman cleaning something in the kitchen who seemed reluctant to leave what she was doing. We were asked to order at the counter and that menus were on the table. There was nothing on the table that told us how much drinks cost - and we'd even said we just wanted coffee. There was no-one else in the cafe. How hard would it have been to walk over to our table and take our order when we were just a few feet from the counter? The woman at the counter asked that we pay up front, so my partner had to come back to our table to collect his wallet. The table wasn't actually clean and we requested a napkin to wipe it ourselves. We ordered a cranberry and raisin scone which had been warmed but was dry and strangely salty. One scone and 2 coffees cost us £8! We were surrounded by all sorts of paraphernalia for sale. Is this a shop or a cafe? I think the owners need to get their priorities sorted, and they could definitely do with some customer service training. The way to do good business is to make your customers feel welcome and encourage them to come back, providing a good service in the meantime. I think I can safely say that we won't be returning to this place!

We had some lovely soup - nice and chunky, hot and tasty.

What a shame about the service which was verging on rude - a great pity.

This cafe is in a prime location right on the river edge in the middle of Bourton-on-the-Water. I can only assume that they have used family or whatever to help out with service - what a pity.
