Old Manse Hotel

Fantastic location by river in beautiful village and ideal for exploring the cotswolds. Staff were friendly and i thought the rates were value for money. We stayed on the second floor where there were two rooms - numbers 12 and 14. It is basically a converted loft and whilst the room dimensions were pretty small it was fine for a 3 night stay. Only negative comments about our stay relate to the bathroom. It is very small but there is nothing that can be done about that, given its location. However, the ceiling above the shower is covered in mildew and the tiles are extremely grubby. This needs attention as i pointed out upon our departure. Another point worth mentioning, as it may be possible to add sound proofing, is that the bathrooms of the two rooms adjoin and are separated by a stud wall. This can be quite disconcerting at times. We have stayed at the hotel before and if staying again would avoid staying in either of these two rooms. The food is good pub grub and as mentioned their breakfast is extremely good value for money at £9.99 for 2 people, which includes a full english, tea, toast, cereals, pastries, yoghurts and fruit. All in all we enjoyed our stay. One last point re car parking. It is a small car park but we managed to park there on 2 nights, the third being across the road where there are many spaces and no restrictions between 1700hrs and 1100hrs.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 12 and 14 on the second floor if possible. Not a disaster if you can`t though.

We stayed in the Old Manse whilst attending a wedding nearby. Both rooms, 1 in the main hotel and 1 in the annex, were perfectly ok. Breakfast was first class and very good value at 2 for £9.99. There was no TV in the bar which meant we had to adjourn to a nearby hostelry to watch the rugby but no problem with that as they have live music etc.
All in all we were very impressed and would have no hesitation recommending the Old Manse as a base for exploring this lovely part of the country.

My wife and I decided to go for a 2 night break to include Valentines night, unfortunately we left one day early, first the weather was appalling, we were located in an annex at the back of the hotel and the room and services were not very good, shower hardly got hot.
The car parking area is very small so the only other option is to park in the communal car park which is about 500 metres from the hotel. Breakfast was OK.

Room Tip: do not ask for the annex

I would like to thank you taking the time in providing us with feedback on your recent stay, where I was saddened to hear that you did not enjoy your time with us, where the weather appears to have also played a part. Our car parking is advertised as limited, which really reflects the building, its location and original use as a vicarage. We do endeavour to provide additional assistance to all our guests in locating alternate parking within the nearby vicinity. My apologies once again and I hope to one day welcome you back to the Old Manse Hotel. Chris, General Manager

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us over Christmas, which is typically a quiet time where we like to slow things down and allow our guests to enjoy their time, although we are already looking to next year to see what else we can offer over the festive period for those looking to do more. I hope to welcome you back again in the not too distant future. Thank your again. Chris, General Manager.

Couldn't agree more with review by Wales Hooky. We stayed the same weekend and had some concerns based on a number of earlier reviews. We needn't have worried. Staff very welcoming and friendly, food (breakfast and dinner) good and reasonably priced, comfortable bedroom and nice atmosphere in the bar with live music (not overpowering!) on Fridays, plus off street parking.

Add to this a really good location next to the river in this very pretty village and it all made for a very pleasant weekend.

Having taken note of some recent reviews we were apprehensive about our stay over the weekend.

We were promptly checked in by Nicky and taken to Room 17 in the annex cottage.Lovely quirky room at the side of the hotel.Bathroom in need of a refurbishment but taking into consideration the hotel is 300 + years it hardly bothered our stay.Room was pleasantly warm during our stay and water always hot.

On most Friday evenings there is entertainment in the main bar, which drew in locals and tourists alike.Great friendly atmosphere, from both the staff and clients in the bar area.

No complaints on the breakfast provided with a election of cereals and fruits and also a good selection off a menu provided.

Gemma who worked in the restaurant and bar area was very friendly and informative,as were all staff we spoke too.

We spent the day in Stow on the Wold and Bourton before returning to the hotel for evening meal. This again, was very good with a large selection on the menu and reasonably priced as were the real ales and wine.

A well managed establishment and friendly courteous staff.A very enjoyable weekend.
