4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 16, 2017
very nice renovated rooms
built in 1600's when people must have been shorter (bashed head a number of times)
charming restaurant and common room
very helpful staff particularly Sophie
nice individually cooked breakfast
good parking (a must for the location)
must have been the only hot day since 1600 so had to leave windows open
if you want to experience the Cotswalds in an original hotel this is it

Very comfortable cosy hotel, beautiful four poster bed and room. Excellent breakfast, shame there was no evening meal, but some good restaurants in the village. The hotel is perfectly situated and staff couldn't be more helpful and very friendly.

We really enjoyed our stay, on arrival we missed it in the street as it's meant to be number 3 but isn't located at the beginning of the street and is set back in the middle so look for the lloyds bank and you'll find it. The location was perfect for our stay.

It's strange the front door was shut on arrival and the entrance is actually at the back, I think this should be changed as it doesn't give the best welcome. Struggling to find it and then not able to get in..

Once we had over come these obstacles though we had a lovely welcome (I think a smaller desk would also do wonders for first impressions). We were very happy with our room size and decor, we loved the old charm. The only shame was needing the window open at night as it was hot and the shutter not keeping the light out so it came flooding in and woke me both mornings (room 15).

Breakfast service and food was exceptional! Thank you! We also had lunch outside which was above our expectations and the town was so busy so it was a nice quite retreat with no wait. We couldn't help but talk about how good our panini and scones were- wonderful!

A shame there wasn't a little more atmosphere, the bar was empty both nights and it felt as if we were the only ones there but this could be a positive as well.

Overall we would stay again apparently it is recently changed hands so I think with a few small tweaks decor tlc and layout it could easily become a 5 star rating.

The village is lovely- but come after 6 pm. During the day it is a complete tourist trap.
Spend an evening walking around in the town, dine in one of the good restaurants, sleep in this charming hotel, have breakfast and leave.

Overall we loved this hotel, especially the convenience of being right in the centre of Bourton on the Water, the great parking, excellent breakfast (perfectly cooked boiled eggs), lovely outdoor areas and cosy rooms and decor. However some attention to detail and customer service is needed.

The rooms were small, not a problem, but the small bed and tiny TV emphasised this. Maybe a more generous bed and TV size would give a more luxurious feel.

There was mould in the shower and black mould on the stone window surrounds - we wiped some of this off with a paper towel so a good scrub would fix it - mould isn't healthy!

The outside area is lovely but please wipe off the pigeon poo and clean the dusty tables regularly. Drinks are over-priced.

Generally the staff were extremely friendly but arguing with a patron at breakfast that they had to pay for breakfast when the patron offered to get paperwork to prove it was part of the deal is not cool.

Finally, as we paid our bills, we tried to pay for the drinks we had the previous evening. They had not been added to our accounts but we insisted we had them. 'They must be complimentary then' we were told. However, as we were heading over to the car park a member of staff came running out calling our name and calling out that we hadn't paid for our drinks. Others in the area looked at us as if we were thieves - very embarrassing and not a nice feeling after we had spent several minutes trying to have the cost added to the bill.

We recently stayed here and our room in the coach house, with a garden, was great. This place is right in the centre of home and parking is on-site. Lovely full English breakfast plus extras. Special mention must be made of the staff. In particular Holly who booked us in, organised dinner bookings, gave guests theatre recommendations and also handled the table waiting at breakfast and then booked us out. She must be superwoman.
