“Perfect Cottage!!”
Reviewed May 9, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Cottage in prime location, 2 mins walk from restaurants and village. Cottage contained everything we needed. Cosy lounge, modern bathroom, very comfortable bed. Cannot fault the property at all. Off road parking a real bonus as parking in village difficult. Bettie and Dawn (owners) were really helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Many thanks for our wonderful stay, hopefully be back soon

“Perfect location within Bourton on the Water”

This period cottage (17th century) retains many features including low beamed ceilings and stone walls. A modern bath has been added, with a small but functional kitchen. The owners are excellent at responding to inquiries within a few minutes, and that helped ease any concerns. Just prior to our arrival, they experienced a problem with the boiler and gave us the choice of going to another accommodation (which they had arranged) or coming as planned and then seeing if they had been able to solve the issue. When we arrived, the boiler was in the midst of being replaced, and Bette was on hand to explain the situation to us. While it did take us a few extra hours before we could get in to the cottage, we did take the opportunity to travel around the village.

The lounge has a huge original fireplace with a wood stove added. We lit a fire one cold evening and it warmed up the cottage very well. It was a lovely way to spend an evening. What is nice about this particular period cottage is that it has windows on 3 sides in the lounge, which adds a lot of light.

The new boiler worked well, and there was always hot water and heat in the house. The bathroom is modern and very nicely done up, but as it is in an extension it remains rather cold and could use with a blind on the window for privacy.

The kitchen has all the amenities you need for a stay. Although the cottage can sleep five, there is only seating at the dining table and main living area for four people (this wasn't an issue for us, but families may want to consider it).

Bedrooms are a nice size and can sleep 5. Lovely, warm linens. A selection of different types of pillows would be nice as all were very hard as were the mattresses. If you have any difficulty walking, be aware that the bedroom floors are very uneven as is to be expected in a cottage of this type.

The best element of the cottage is its proximity to the village. It is a very short walk to the river and tea rooms, but enough off the main area to be quiet.

“Lovely quiet cottage!!”

The place was lovely, well looked after and very quiet. We had an amazing time in a one of the most peaceful and picturesque parts of the country and this was exactly what we were looking for!

The kitchen was small but well equipped and the bathroom was very clean with a good shower and we loved getting use out of the log fire. Bourton was very quiet while we were there and we found out the village can be quite seasonal and as a result a lot of the restaurants were closed during our stay. We were told that most placed open up in Feb so it may be worth checking before booking.

Overall this was a great getaway from the city and would be happy to recommend and are highly likely to revisit another time!

This was a cozy, warm and welcoming cottage. Exactly what we expected, with a well-furnished kitchen, dining and living room and bedrooms, all lovingly decorated and considering the age of the cottage, beautifully preserved. Wonderful hosts made the entire holiday completely perfect.

“An absolute gem!!”

We very much enjoyed our week at Well Cottage and are so pleased we found this little gem of a place. It is so picturesque and really like something you would see on a picture postcard. Although the village is a busy place, the area surrounding the cottage is so peaceful, just an occasional horse trotting by or a few tourists.

Bette and Dawn have considered absolutely every requirement to make for a pleasant stay and their housekeeper Jo presents the cottage in an immaculate clean condition and leaves a lovely welcome card containing her contact details. For those people needing to connect to the internet, the wifi connection was excellent.

We will definitely be back and will suggest a stay to family and friends.

As for the village of Bourton on the Water, you could not wish to stay in a more lovely setting. It is known as the Little Venice of the Cotswolds with its quaint little bridges over the river Windrush. There are lots of delightful shops, restaurants and pubs within a few minutes stroll from the cottage, many of which are built in the lovely Cotswold stone. We also visited Highgrove (home of Prince Charles) for a garden tour whilst we were staying; I had booked this up quite a few months in advance of our stay. Would thoroughly recommend, it’s around a 45 minute drive from the cottage to Tetbury.

“Loved this cottage, sad to leave!”

We booked this cottage after a lot of research, and later found out that some friends from Melbourne had stayed there the previous year and loved it! Clean, comfortable, quaint - what more do you need? Plenty of room for the 3 kids in the second bedroom. Loved being right in a gorgeous town, with walks and drives to other lovely places all within easy reach. Dawn and Bette lovely to deal with, prompt responses to emails and queries. We have stayed in 17 places on our 8 week trip, and this was one of our favorites!
