“Top Quality Bed & Breakfast”
Reviewed May 31, 2012

I have just had a 3 night stay in Coombe House and cannot fault it. The house is very clean and beatifully furnished. Richard & Pat are delightful hosts without being too intrusive and they have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. The breakfasts were delightful and were in a room which overlooked a lovely garden. Comfortable beds, a tastefully furnished lounge for visitors to use and the house is perfectly situated for a pleasant walk into Bourton. What more can I say. Perfect!

We received a fantastically warm welcome from Richard & Pat and really enjoyed our two night stay. The cleanliness and quality of the rooms is rarely found in even the top quality hotels. The full English breakfast was a great start to the day and the location meant the car was unused during our stay and we ventured on foot around the village and surrounding countryside. We didn't need to visit the information centre, as local information was available on our arrival that enabled us to plan some lovely walks.

Juat got back from a lovely 4 night stay at this lovely b&b in Bourton on the Water . Great location (4 minute walk into the village) , spotless accomodation , fine breakfast and lovely hosts . Super part of the country with lovely walks on rolling hills and smashing little pubs to call into along the way in brilliant sunshine . Ate out and about at night but avoid Coach & Horses up on the main road in which we did not enjoy , how do you mess up a fish & chip supper ??? Hope the weather is as good when we return and many thanks to Ricard & Pat for all your help .

Cute English town, comfortable B&B, lovely hosts - only I've stayed at such B&Bs before at better rates (but maybe that's the Cotswolds for you). The only complaint I have about BOTW is that it is fairly touristy and all of the Cotswolds towns are very car accessible.

  • Liked — Good location, clean rooms, good breakfast.
  • Disliked — Price
  • Tips/Secrets — Try less touristy, better value places located in less well known towns - the Slaughters, Broadway etc.

We stayed here for 2 nights in early August, 2006. The town/village is very quaint and makes a good central spot for touring and going to Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Stonehenge etc. Some nice pottery places in town, with delicate bone china mugs that were microwave and dishwash safe. Regret not having bought them there since London was a lot more expensive and have not commonly found these in the States.

Pros: Spotlessly clean, very good breakfast, gracious and helpful hosts. B&B close to town and easy walk of 5 minutes. Rooms well appointed with /small fridge, kettle and tea/coffee things for the morning. Hostess also graciously provided fresh milk for tea.
Cons: Rooms small with the bathroom so tiny, that my husband had to take permission every time he turned!! We had noisy people staying above us who went to the bathroom every hour making our secong night there very painful. We had rooms 1 and 2. Avoid those and instead go for 5 and 6.

If you go, make sure you ask for the upstairs rooms (they all seemed empty when we sat out on the guests terrace), as I think they will be quieter.

Found this B&B by chance driving through the Cotswolds. Despite a "no vacancy" sign, we stopped because it was just so pretty! The gardens were in bloom and it was completely charming. Fourtunately, they had a room. A small double(#5)I think, overlooking the roof terrace was immaculately clean and cosy. A micro fridge had water bottles and our host brought a fresh pitcher of milk for us to make tea in our room. We felt very welcome. The weather was terrific and we sat out on the roof terrace to have our tea and a glass of wine later in the eveving. The bathroom was very tiny, but spotless and a nice hot shower. Our host provided his own maps for our use and we spent a glorious day at Sudely Castle and Hidecote Gardens. The town is touristy and crowded during the day, but after 5pm it is all yours. Dinner at the Dial House was our best meal in England. The B&B is a short walk to the town and the beautiful Windrush River. We loved it!!!

David and Dawn welcome you to Coombe House which sits behind our beautiful, mature garden, and is just a leisurely walk of hardly more than a few minutes from the picture perfect village of Bourton-on-the-Water, fondly known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds'. With its many attractions including The Model Village, Birdland Park and Gardens, Bourton Model Railway, The Cotswold Perfumery and the Cotswold Motor Museum and its quaint selection of gift shops, boutiques and cafes, we're sure you'll be spoilt for choice of how to spend your days. In the evening you could stay in Bourton and sample one of the fine restaurants or pubs in the village, with their excellent choice of menus, overlooking the beautiful River Windrush and it's famous bridges, or visit one of the many nearby chocolate box villages before returning for a board game or game of cards in our residents lounge or putting your head down for the night ahead of another adventurous day exploring the local sites. Our seven comfortable, tastefully decorated rooms are all en-suite with free wifi, tea and coffee making facilities, refrigerator and a flat screen TV. After breakfast you may wish to leave your car in our free car park for an opportunity to experience one of the local walks or you can either set about taking in our glorious 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' or take a few minutes in the quiet of our residents' lounge before venturing out. This is an idyllic spot to use as a hub while exploring the Cotswolds. Whilst we have a "no pet" policy in the main house we do, however, have a separate annexe room which we would consider accepting well behaved, clean dogs, with responsible owners, please enquire.
