Cranbourne House
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Cranbourne House is a small hotel in Bourton on the Water. We stayed for four nights this week and had a really lovely time. The room we had was very nice, warm with a comfy bed and a lovely en suite. We had one of the friendliest welcomes when we arrived and each day had the most delicious breakfast. John is a wonderful host. Each day when we returned we were treated to two big slices of home made cake! The hotel was convenient for walks to the Slaughters, a short walk from the village centre where there are lovely places to eat and very convenient for visiting all the Cotswold towns and villages. A really nice relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms were lovely

The couple who ran the B&B - Shona and Graham (and of course, Chocco) couldn't do enough to make our stay, superb. Greeted with afternoon tea and cakes we chatted about all there is to do in the area, whereby they produced maps for us to use. They also took it upon themselves to make sure we had reservations at the local restaurants and taxi-rides.
The accomodation itself was of a particularly high standard, more like a boutique hotel than a B&B. We were even treated to an Easter Egg in our room.
The room was very tastefully furnished and the en-suite bathroom had underfloor heating and walk-in shower. There were mod-cons such as a flat-screen TV and iPod dock alarm clock.
The only thing that could be remedied was the creaky headboard but we both slept like logs so wasn't too much of an issue.
Bourton on the Water itself is a picture postcard town and as a result it was a tourist hotspot. However, as we were tourists ourselves we couldn't grumble and the local restaurants and pubs kept us happy. Definitely worth taking you wellington boots for the beautiful walks.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Notgrove room in the main house - would certainly recommend.

We stayed at Cranbourne House for 2 nights to chill out after a very busy time at work. Graham made us feel very welcome and was a mind of information about the area and recommended lovely places to eat. The house was beautifully kept, very clean and our room( Chedworth) was very comfortable. The cooked breakfast was delicious, especially the scrambled eggs and smoked trout. We would highly recommend Cranbourne House to anyone visiting the Cotswolds and would just like to say get well soon to Shona who we unfortunately did not meet due to her car accident.

Stayed for 2 nights in a lovely B&B. The room (Notgrove) was quite spacious, very clean and comfortable with plenty of nice little touches, Breakfast food also well cooked and tasty. I would certainly recommend staying here. Special mention to Graham who made us very welcome on arrival and during the stay depsite being involved in a car accident the day before that had left his wife in hospital.

My partner and I had a few days in the Cotswolds to celebrate his 60th birthday. Shona and Graham very kindly greeted us with a card and a box of chocolates, and continued to do everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Our ground floor room was through the conservatory and suited us perfectly as it was wonderfully quiet, with a Kingsize bed and a large en-suite shower. The house is kept beautifully clean, and the breakfast is excellent - including a delicious fresh fruit salad, home-made muesli and locally sourced smoked trout. Fresh milk in a thermos was much appreciated for tea and coffee in our room. My only suggestion would be the provision of filtered water too, as the water from the bathroom tap tastes of chlorine. We bought some bottled water from the local shop so all was well. The house is perfectly placed for a stay in Bourton - just a couple of minutes walk down to the main street. Shona is a mine of information if you're not sure where to visit, and she knows all the best places to eat in The Cotswolds. Even if you don't like dogs, you won't mind Choco. She'll come and show you her toy red sausage then she'll head straight back to her bed! There is no doggy smell in the house at all - it's immaculate throughout. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cranbourne House for a stay in The Cotswolds.

Room Tip: Westcote Suite ideal if you want a quiet, ground floor room
