Cranbourne House
Reviewed November 14, 2012

My partner and I had a few days in the Cotswolds to celebrate his 60th birthday. Shona and Graham very kindly greeted us with a card and a box of chocolates, and continued to do everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Our ground floor room was through the conservatory and suited us perfectly as it was wonderfully quiet, with a Kingsize bed and a large en-suite shower. The house is kept beautifully clean, and the breakfast is excellent - including a delicious fresh fruit salad, home-made muesli and locally sourced smoked trout. Fresh milk in a thermos was much appreciated for tea and coffee in our room. My only suggestion would be the provision of filtered water too, as the water from the bathroom tap tastes of chlorine. We bought some bottled water from the local shop so all was well. The house is perfectly placed for a stay in Bourton - just a couple of minutes walk down to the main street. Shona is a mine of information if you're not sure where to visit, and she knows all the best places to eat in The Cotswolds. Even if you don't like dogs, you won't mind Choco. She'll come and show you her toy red sausage then she'll head straight back to her bed! There is no doggy smell in the house at all - it's immaculate throughout. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cranbourne House for a stay in The Cotswolds.

Room Tip: Westcote Suite ideal if you want a quiet, ground floor room

We stayed two nights at Cranbourne house in Bourton on Water. The hosts were very good and made us welcome with tea and biscuits on arrival. The room we booked the " windrush was in the annex part of the house, not in the main house as we expected , this was not mentioned on the web site when I booked or I would not have chosen to stay there. The cost was the same as a room charge in the main house and I feel it should have been cheaper. On entering the annex we were greeted with an overpowering smell of damp which was horrible. The room itself was nice and clean but still felt like we were staying in a converted garage. The bed was a double and not a king size as described and to be honest was very uncomfortable. The breakfast however was very good. It was about 5 minutes walk into the town with a nice selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, the hosts very kindly booked us into the restaurants they recommended to us prior to arriving which was nice.

Good Afternoon,

I just wanted to respond to your review for your stay at Cranbourne House. It was lovely that you enjoyed your stay and the warm welcome which we offer all guests when stopping here. We are also happy that you enjoyed the breakfast, as we always choose the best local produce to offer to our guests.

With regards to the bed in the Windrush room, firstly we are happy that you were pleased with the level of cleanliness as we pride ourselves on spotlessly clean rooms. All of our beds at Cranbourne House are King Beds which are measured 5' x 6'6" (150 x 200 cm) and we pride ourselves on the fantastic quality of these beds and mattresses which are regularly changed and updated to ensure maximum comfort to all of our guests.

The annex is not a converted garage at all and the quality of rooms are spread across each of our 6 bedrooms. We are sorry you felt like this, but one great advantage of the annex rooms which guests absolutely adore is the view across the garden. The furnishings and the style of the rooms in the annex are completely similar to the main house. I am not sure what the damp smell was and as I was not there I can only apologise if there was an odour on that particular day. All of our rooms are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards and we pride ourselves on the positive feedback we receive from our guests. If there are ever any issues here at Cranbourne, most of our guests will let us know so we can do something on the spot to make your stay as relaxing as possible.

When booking via our website, there is a small description on the left hand side of the page which describes the room and where it is in relation to the house. We always ensure that we offer as much information to our guests as possible as we know it makes things more personal. The description for our Windrush room is as follows and the link to that particular room is just below that:

"A first floor en suite bedroom in the adjacent annex with upholstered and painted king size Louis XV style French bed. Windrush & Evenlode can be booked together for family use."

Can't really add anything further to what the most recent reviews are saying but our stay at Cranbourne House was so good, I felt I should comment (and this is my first review on tripadvisor).

Shona and Graham are so friendly and helpful, greeting you as if you are their friends. I'm not usually a dog person, but Choco is lovely.

The breakfast was great - Shona and Graham use all local produce (make sure you try the kiwi jam!), and the rooms are lovely. They also made my birthday extra-special.

We have stayed in the village several times. Next time we go, we will stay at Cranbourne House again - we don't think you can beat it!

Room Tip: They all look like nice rooms.

Just got home from a wonderful stay at Cranbourne House. Shona and Graham are the perfect hosts along with their dog Choco who never leaves his toy "sausage" on its own!! Cranbourne House is a superb Cotswold house turned into a great B&B. The whole house is tastefully decorated with a spacious conservatory and lounge available to residents all day. The rooms all have ensuites tv tea and coffee facilities and complimentray toiletries. Breakfast is served in the large dining room and there is a choice of cereals continental and full English. It is just two minutes walk to the village centre and all Bourton has to offer. They were only too willing to share their Cotswold experience advise on the best restaurants and places to see. A big thanks to them. We are looking forward to going back to see them again.

Our stay at Cranbourne House could not have been any better. We were greeted by Shona, Graham and Choco (their lovely dog) and made to feel very welcome.
They shared with us their knowledge of the local area and recommended some great restaurants in the village, as well as providing us with a map of the Cotswolds and a suggested route.
The room we had was spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet.... Great shower and bed.... and they serve a delicious breakfast.
We were only a short walk to the picturesque village of Boughton on the Water..... What a wonderful place!!
We are so glad we chose to stay here.....

Room Tip: Our room was directly off the conservatory on the ground floor.... It was great not to have to climb...

This is a friendly, clean, welcoming B&B in a great location for visiting the Cotswolds. The caretakers went out of their way to accommodate our every need. They also make a delicious breakfast buffet tailored to the guest's wishes. Their well-behaved little dog, Choco, made it feel even more like home. If we ever get back to England, we will definitely stay at the Cranbourne House.

We recently had three nights at this first class B&B. The location is excellent, a nice quiet street, just a few minutes walk to the village centre, restaurants and pubs. Hosts Graham and Shona were such a lovely couple and did everything to make sure our stay was memorable. Their knowledge of the area is excellent and they can advise on local attractions and restaurants etc. Our room was beautifully decorated and well equipped, there is a delightful sun room and a lounge for guest use. The breakfasts here were delicious with a great selection on offer. All up this B&B is delightful.

Room Tip: Thy all looked good to us.
