“An English Idyll”

Such a delight. A cosy, comfortable hotel. The setting difficult to better. England I remember growing up in rural Wiltshire.I reccomend their Sublime Sunday offer. Sunday lunch, overnight stay and full English breakfast on Monday. Bibury gets crowded in season so pick your time. The Trout Farm is worth a visit but there is so much more close by that you are spoiltfor choice. Wonderful to return to the cosy warmth after a day out.

We stayed here whilst attending the Cheltenham festival in March. It's actually about 20 miles from Cheltenham, but still near enough as all the hotels in the town quickly fill up.
The hotel itself is a delight, with good service and excellent food. It is very comfortable with a roaring log fire on chilly evenings in the lounge area.
Unfortunately our room was broken into while we were there, and we had some stuff stolen. The police were called, but no one was ever caught.
Needless to say this rather spoilt our stay.
Five stars for the hotel, but reduced to three because of the robbery.

We stayed at the swan between xmas and new year. our room was in the grounds of the hotel but away from the main building, this suited us as we wanted a reclusive break. Our room was two story with a fantastic log fire in our sitting room, it was a struggle to get it going but once alight it was fine. The upstairs bedroom and second bathroom have been decorated to a very high standard, the room was always warm, very inportant to me. The only dissapointment was in the resturant, we found the menu selection stayed the same for the 4 nights, with no daily alternative, but the local pub offers great food so we choose to eat there on a couple of occations. Staff friendly and very helpful, and over all we had a wonderfully relaxing time. We would visit again and would choose to pay a little more for the luxury of our own space. (cheaper than renting a cottage with all the benifits except a kitchen)

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Swan Hotel... after looking for a quite post christmas get away i think we found just the place. Bibury is such a quaint little village which we enjoyed walking around, visiting the Trout farm, where my husband feed the fish ,so he was happy !!! The Hotel itself was very nice, a warm and friendly welcome. We upgraded our room to a delux double and we were very happy it was a good size and had a lovely sized bathroom, we were told it was complementry tea coffee and water (which was presented in lovely sparling and still pop top water bottles) after walking past a open store room, full of cheap bottles of supermarket bottles to refill i felt a bit cheeted . But we really enjoyed the evening dinner , the food was of a high standard and the service was good. Our only problem with the Menu for the resturant was it was exactly the same for the second night so we just had a bar meal, which we enjoyed. A little bit more heating and the water abit hotter would of made me feel abit more comfier but i do like heat.
Please go and enjoy this little oasis of England in a splendid Hotel.

We stayed at The Swan for 4 nights including the £850, two night New Years Eve package. First the good bits, lovely location, friendly/attentive staff and excellent food.

However, beware the standard "dog friendly" rooms - if you have any form of allergy, you might have trouble sleeping. For a hotel of this quality and charging this much, dog hair and dog odour really is not what you expect. These rooms should come with a health warning...

"Dog friendly but human unfriendly!"

The New Years Eve dinner was rather disappointing, it just lacked atmosphere and really did not get started. The problem was principally an inappropriate band who seemed to lack any sense of occasion, delivering 3 hours consisting of mainly of heavyish rock music - nothing against this type of music but the average age of the audience was well in excess of 65, resulting in most people leaving the function room and sitting in the bar area. Overall, it was a rather expensive non-event.

As with another contributor, we found exactly the same problems with the Christmas lunch - a very expensive lesson learned! It may be in a lovely setting but the special day was ruined by the whole experience: 'Dishwater' soup, inedible green vegetables and a rolled joint of turkey badly carved and served with more 'dishwater' gravy, all ready-plated with no accompanying sauces - poor table service - the total cost should have been £5 p.p. not £75 p.p. Our complaint on the day fell on deaf ears so we will pursue this further, but it won't change the memory of a big disappointment.

Lunch at the Swan Hotel was included in an all-day tour I took of the Cotswolds from London. I generally do not like fish so was prepared to be disappointed when I found out we were going to be served trout. Fortunately I was pleasantly surprised that the trout was very tasty and served with a delicious creamy sauce. Fresh vegetables, cooked just right, not raw - cauliflower, green beans and carrots, were also served. I thought I was going to be disappointed with dessert, too, since I don't really like apples, but the apple crisp, served with some sort of strawberry or raspberry sauce and fresh berries, was excellent. Although we had 46 people on our tour, the hotel promptly served everyone. This beautiful stone hotel is located in a picture perfect setting along a stone bridge and lovely flowing river with geese and swans and has a picturesque trout farm across the street. I was sorry we were only stopping for lunch since it looked like it would have been an ideal place to spend the night.
