Went there on the 26th June for lunch. Sat outside by the river.
Been going to the Talbooth for almost 40 years and it has always been a favourite. On this occasion it was very embarrasing as our friend was treating us. Usual good service but food very mediocre. A crab starter was £12.50 for a miniscule portion. Two of us had guinea fowl which was very poorly presented with a thin sauce. My wife could have made a much better dish. We asked for an extra portion of vegetables which in fact was a bowl of cabbage!
The bill for three was £183 not included service. We left a tip as the staff as always were very. pleasant. Total bill for three was £201 including a not too expensive bottle of wine.
Frankly the food was not up to the usual Talbooth standard. A week ago my wife and I had lunch at a top London hotel where the food was much better and the bill proportionately less.
On the following day we went to Aldeburgh and had lunch at the the main hotel there. A very good comparable meal at half the price.
Sad really but I feel awful having to post such a critique but we will not be returning to the Talbooth. We expect to pay a little more for the surroundings etc but if the food is not much good what is the point.
