Cedar wood is a dear little cabin, most tastefully decorated and furnished, and with everything one might need for an overnight, or weekend stay near Rye. There are so many restaurants, walks and other attractions within a short car ride, that we regretted we were not staying longer. Sharing a huge lawn with Blackthorn Cottage, Cedarwood is far enough away from it to offer peace and privacy. We stoked the little fire with logs when the weather was bad, and lunched on the sunny deck when the weather was good. We enjoyed the dorma window above the bed, and fell asleep under the stars, listening to the rustle of leaves overhead.
From the onset of our initial enquiry, through to the end of our stay, Peter was the perfect host. He was prompt and attentive in all communications; considerate and accommodating - always to hand if needs be, but never imposing.
We would definitely consider Cedarwood again, and Blackthorn Cottage for a longer stay, only due to size.
6th stay at blackthorn and booked for next year. Shame the weather was not the best but still relaxed in pool and hot tub.
Peter and Karen are brilliant hosts and there is lots of information in the cottage and they know most things about the area.
Cottage is well equipped with TV, DVD player, dishwasher, microwave and kitchen equipment. Just bring your food and drink.
Great views and not far from rye and local pubs with great food.
Well worth the stay for relaxation and chill out
As new parents (our daughter is 4 months old) we really wanted a relaxing holiday where we could spend some quality family time together away from those annoying jobs that nag when at home. Blackthorn cottage was perfect. We spent our first night in the cabin in the copse and I'm so glad we did. The clever use of space and carefully considered small details really made it a wonderful experience. We were comfy and had everything we needed but still felt like we were getting away from things.
The rest of our week was in the cottage and, as many reviews have already stated, it was great. Unlike others, we didn't really explore all that much of the local area, though we had a couple of brief trips out. What we wanted was somewhere to rest, read and relax. We couldn't have asked for a better place. The pool was fantastic (I beat my partner at pool volleyball several times, meaning he had to cook!). It was also warm enough for our daughter to have some fun splashing around. We were lucky with the weather but to be honest, it wouldn't have bothered us if it had rained the whole time. The scenery is beautiful come rain or shine.
I also have to say that the cottage was wonderfully comfortable, especially the bed. The linen was so great I found the label and have ordered some for us at home!
This was a brilliant holiday where we were able to really recharge and reconnect. It was exactly what we'd hoped for for our first holiday as a family. Thank you to Peter and his wife. We'll definitely be back!
What a great find Blackthorn cottage was and we can really add very little to the many glowing reviews already posted.
We booked a week here so that we could use it as a base for exploring the local area whilst also chilling out. On our arrival we were greeted by Peter who showed us around and happily advised us of places to visit and provided details of the local pubs/eating places. The bottle of prosecco and hen & duck eggs provided was a really nice touch. The king sized bed is so comfortable as is the cosy lounge. This is a real home from home with the bonus of a pool and hot tub. All the utensils are provided if you want to eat in but a meal at the Queens Head pub is a must. Beware the portions are massive. We certainly recommend Blackthorn to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing and friendly place to stay.
