“Cedarwood - A wee gem in a grand setting!”

Cedar wood is a dear little cabin, most tastefully decorated and furnished, and with everything one might need for an overnight, or weekend stay near Rye. There are so many restaurants, walks and other attractions within a short car ride, that we regretted we were not staying longer. Sharing a huge lawn with Blackthorn Cottage, Cedarwood is far enough away from it to offer peace and privacy. We stoked the little fire with logs when the weather was bad, and lunched on the sunny deck when the weather was good. We enjoyed the dorma window above the bed, and fell asleep under the stars, listening to the rustle of leaves overhead.
From the onset of our initial enquiry, through to the end of our stay, Peter was the perfect host. He was prompt and attentive in all communications; considerate and accommodating - always to hand if needs be, but never imposing.
We would definitely consider Cedarwood again, and Blackthorn Cottage for a longer stay, only due to size.

Many thanks for the thoughtful review of our little clamping cabin in the copse! As you suggested, it's totally self-sufficient with a galley kitchen, small bathroom and many of the comforts of home - just a little smaller! (Ideal for a romantic weekend break or a little longer, although we do have guests currently staying for one week)! Unlike Blackthorn it has it's own private garden, handy car park close-by under the trees, and several areas to relax and unwind in the peace and the quiet of the Sussex countryside. Anyway, we have a few formalities before we can start to advertise Cedarwood properly, but it will be on with Trip Advisor/Holiday Lettings very soon, so please watch this space and we hope to welcome you in the future; and to this kindly reviewer, 'please come back to England sometime and you can experience Blackthorn!'.

“Another amazing stay ”
Reviewed July 24, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

6th stay at blackthorn and booked for next year. Shame the weather was not the best but still relaxed in pool and hot tub.

Peter and Karen are brilliant hosts and there is lots of information in the cottage and they know most things about the area.

Cottage is well equipped with TV, DVD player, dishwasher, microwave and kitchen equipment. Just bring your food and drink.

Great views and not far from rye and local pubs with great food.

Well worth the stay for relaxation and chill out

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your lovely review - 6th time here - that's a great Blackthorn compliment! Another 50th celebration next year so we'll have further complimentary treats in store for you in August 2018! Enjoy the rest of the summer - still mixed weather here but of course the indoor pool comes into its own when guests can't go out and play, and it's only a short walk across the courtyard (passed the bubbling tub)... Anyway, see you next year!

Many thanks for your very positive and thoughtful review. Karen and I like it when Blackthorn or Cedarwood are booked to celebrate an occasion. It's an opportunity with the help of little extras to make it even more special and memorable for the guests - in the way we'd like our special occasion to be. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and we look forward to seeing you both soon - once the hips and knees have been fixed! It was great to meet you.

Hi Alex and Mark. Thanks for leaving such a nice review, and we hope you'll think of returning sometime in the future - but next time for a little longer: 2 x nights are just NOT long enough, and this area has so much to offer in good weather. Karen and I visited the Robin Hood Boot Fair this morning at the top of the lane, and later this afternoon I plan to walk to the Queen's Head pub at the other end of the village to enjoy Creole Jazz performing live in the sunshine... It's a good life, and one we want to introduce to others!

Many thanks for a truly comprehensive and complimentary review. The Kent and East Sussex railway to Bodiam Castle is a perfect day out, and can be combined with a boat trip either there or back to make it even more memorable. Your cream tea sounds like a great idea. Perhaps I should make a list for guests of all the great tea rooms dotted about the are?. If you should return to Blackthorn then another steam experience is the delightful 1/3 scale Romney Hythe & Dymchurch railway that runs along the Kent coast starting from the unique environment of Dungeness and ending at the beautiful old town of Hythe. Thanks again for the great review, and enjoy the rest of the summer!

“Fantastic, relaxing holiday”
Reviewed May 27, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

As new parents (our daughter is 4 months old) we really wanted a relaxing holiday where we could spend some quality family time together away from those annoying jobs that nag when at home. Blackthorn cottage was perfect. We spent our first night in the cabin in the copse and I'm so glad we did. The clever use of space and carefully considered small details really made it a wonderful experience. We were comfy and had everything we needed but still felt like we were getting away from things.
The rest of our week was in the cottage and, as many reviews have already stated, it was great. Unlike others, we didn't really explore all that much of the local area, though we had a couple of brief trips out. What we wanted was somewhere to rest, read and relax. We couldn't have asked for a better place. The pool was fantastic (I beat my partner at pool volleyball several times, meaning he had to cook!). It was also warm enough for our daughter to have some fun splashing around. We were lucky with the weather but to be honest, it wouldn't have bothered us if it had rained the whole time. The scenery is beautiful come rain or shine.
I also have to say that the cottage was wonderfully comfortable, especially the bed. The linen was so great I found the label and have ordered some for us at home!
This was a brilliant holiday where we were able to really recharge and reconnect. It was exactly what we'd hoped for for our first holiday as a family. Thank you to Peter and his wife. We'll definitely be back!

Wow, thanks for such a glowing review! It was a total pleasure to have you stay, and we love it when young families are able to get the most out of what we have to offer. I ought to mention though that usually the 'glamping' cabin is only for 2 x adults - there isn't space for anything like a travel-cot etc. but Blackthorn with the pool and its shallow shelf at one end is the perfect environment for young families looking to acclimatise their new addition! (I wonder what bedding you had - Marks and Spencer's Autograph perhaps)? Anyway, thanks for the compliments, and we hope to welcome you again before little Ella isn't little anymore...

“Great Location for a relaxing break”
Reviewed May 21, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

What a great find Blackthorn cottage was and we can really add very little to the many glowing reviews already posted.
We booked a week here so that we could use it as a base for exploring the local area whilst also chilling out. On our arrival we were greeted by Peter who showed us around and happily advised us of places to visit and provided details of the local pubs/eating places. The bottle of prosecco and hen & duck eggs provided was a really nice touch. The king sized bed is so comfortable as is the cosy lounge. This is a real home from home with the bonus of a pool and hot tub. All the utensils are provided if you want to eat in but a meal at the Queens Head pub is a must. Beware the portions are massive. We certainly recommend Blackthorn to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing and friendly place to stay.

Thank you so much for the lovely review. You had my idea of a perfect holiday: days out to see some of the many local sights, occasional trips further afield, local walks, eating in and eating out when you felt like a treat, but enough time to relax in the tub or the pool after a day out of sight-seeing - and the sun shone MOST of the time, raining at night for my garden! A win win situation.... Best to you both, and thanks again for taking the time to leave a review.
