“Fab-u-LOUS!!!”
Reviewed December 15, 2014 for a stay in December 2014

My Partner Lucy and I returned home on Friday after a wonderful 5 night getaway in this lovely cottage set in a stunning backdrop. We`ve seen "four in a bed" so we know what we`re looking for (only kidding Peter & Karen) and we could not fault our stay even if we wanted too!

The cottage has everything you could want, the fire was glorious (don`t put the heating on in the evening!) and the facilities first rate!

So much to do in easy distance (even if your partner makes you walk!), so much so that we shall be consulting our diary for a return trip in the summer to enjoy this wonderful cottage in another season. Thank you for making a very special occasion even more so!

Many thanks for your lovely review. Yes, perhaps a little less walking next time!
The Rye area has much to do and see without having to walk any distance: two steam railways - the 1/3 scale Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch which runs along the coast, and is great for a memorable day out if you take in the vast sandy beach with its donkey rides, and nostalgic Fun Fair at Dymchurch, for example; or the more grown up Kent & East Sussex Railway where you can travel back in time to Bodiam and its impressive Castle, and perhaps return on the river Rother courtesy of the Bodiam Boating Station, finishing off with tea in their garden, and a visit to the nearby Toy & pedal Car Museum... That's two days taken care of already!
There really is SO much to see and do in his area - i think that's one reason why some of our guests have returned to Blackthorn six times!

A lovely little cottage. Well equipped, and in a great setting. A real treat to have a pool and a hot tub. Peter was very helpful.

Many thanks for taking time to leave the review.
I'm glad the indoor pool was a success. I think it's particularly great for young families with it's wide, shallow shelf at one end - an ideal feature for initially getting your baby used to the warm water. As the pool only very gradually shelves it's also practical and safe for parents to wander up and down its length allowing their little ones to experience deeper water too, if they wish.
As you know we are very happy to accommodate families with one child up to 2 years old - or for as long as they can squeeze into our travel cot and high chair!
So thanks again, and we hope the three of you will have the opportunity to visit us another time soon.

“Perfect for a break away!!”
Reviewed November 18, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

This was our first break away from our busy daily lives... The hosts were great, gave us all the information we needed and then left us to enjoy the amazing and peaceful surroundings of their cottage, but with the option to contact them via phone if we needed absolutely anything!
The cottage, hot tub and pool were completely at our disposal and were lovely and clean.
We could not have wished for a better place to stay and will be going back next year to do the exact same thing!

Thank you so much for taking time to write a review.
You traveled a long way for your two nights of rest and relaxation so we're really glad it was such a success.
On a personal note, after a daunting start with the cottage wood burner, you can now confidently add 'fire making skills' to your list of achievements, as well as 'women's swimming pool volleyball champ'. Thank you again for leaving a review - it means a lot - and we look forward to welcoming you both again sometime next year!

Thank you so much for the complimentary review. It was great to meet you both, and to know that your midweek birthday break was such a success! Karen and I look forward to welcoming you again soon. Perhaps a weekend in the summer sunshine when we'll have dusted off the sun loungers and put the badminton net up in the garden...

“Perfect stay”
Reviewed November 12, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

Had a wonderful short break at Blackthorn Cottage, it is really cosy and comfortable and has everything you could need, very well equipped for cooking although we didn't bother as so many places close by to eat, we did cook the lovely eggs left for us by Peter and Karen which were lovely. Peter and karen are so friendly and helpful, they are very discreet but available when needed. In the cottage they provide information packs on the area, a whole folder on places to eat including some sample menus, maps and leaflets so is easy to decide where to go/what to do. The swimming pool and hot tub are fabulous, both lovely temperature. We used both, including the hot tub on a very windy evening. Overall a fantastic place to go as so much to do in the area as well as a fantastic cottage to come back to and relax.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed October 21, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Blackthorn cottage was the perfect, relaxing weekend break we were after, in a beautiful setting.

The hot tub and pool were fantastic and Peter and Karen could not be more helpful. They were the perfect hosts and so friendly. We had bubbly and fresh eggs waiting for us on arrival which was a lovely touch.

I would definately recommend to anyone and would love to return myself in the future.

Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Liked best: The hot tub and pool.
Liked least: There was nothing I did not like. The only problem we had was finding a local taxi company to get us into Rye on a Saturday evening.

Thank you for the lovely review.
We're glad you were able to spend time relaxing in the hot tub and the indoor pool, but also squeeze in quad biking near Hailsham, a meal out in Rye, and a walk on Camber beach!
As you know, there are plenty more places to visit and things to do in this lovely area, and so we look forward to welcoming you again soon.
Best wishes to you both and thank you for finding time to review Blackthorn. It is much appreciated.
Peter & Karen.

“EXCELLENT STAY ONCE AGAIN!”
Reviewed August 29, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Second visit to Blackthorn - last time was a couple of winters ago and it was nice to see the area in a different season. Warm welcome from Karen and Peter, bubbly in fridge, eggs for breakfast if you want them. We were lucky with the weather so spent two lazy days in the hot tub (plastic glass of Pimms in hand!) and swimming in the indoor heated pool. Just a great place for relaxing in peaceful countryside. Had a meal at the Robin Hood pub which was very nice - surroundings are not so nice as the Queens Head but as it was only 10 mins walk up the lane, thought we would give it a try. All in all a great weekend. Thanks again Karen and Peter for making us so welcome.
