Saw this advertised and didn't do my normal research. The fact that Anne of Cleeves probably never visited this house makes me feel it should be called something else. That being said it is a lovely house.

Anne of Cleves was a smart lady and on divorcing Henry not only remained his friend but became a very rich and influencial woman. She was given a great deal of property from which she made money in rent. This house is one such property. She never lived there but 'may' have visited. On this basis this attraction is a bit of cheeky premise. Anyway, the house itself is pretty but there is not much inside. The access interpretation is simple but good (especially the kitchen which is interesting). If you are passing by, Anne of Cleves House is worth visiting but I wouldn't prioritise it. That said the little cafe is really nice. Delicious cake, nice service and a pretty garden. Although you need a ticket to visit the house you don't need a ticket to go to the cafe.

We didn't know what to expect from this museum but the building is incredible - a fabulous Elizabethan survivor. Not only does the museum tell you about how people lived in Tudor times with some excellent in depth information in the literature provided in the rooms but it gives you some excellent local history too in the Lewes room. The Iron gallery was also unexpected but unexpectedly fascinating. Add in a beautifully kept garden with planting from Tudor times and a sweet tea room and outdoor seating area and this is a gem of a small museum. We learned a lot and well worth the joint ticket we bought from Lewes Castle (in fact, we might recommend the house over the castle if you're pushed for time or money).
