“Very small rooms, cleaning suspect, low price.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2010

We stayed 10 days at this hotel which we picked because it was affordable and close to realatives.

Room
The rooms were very small. Others said that they were even small for the Premier Inn chain. It was very tight as we had 2 beds and a pull out bed and that left us with about 10 sqare feet to stand. The room was quite bright and pleasant otherwise. The bed was super comfortable.

Cleaning
Cleaning was inconsistent. There was no toilet paper when we arrived and we ran out once during the stay. Dishes (coffee cups) were sorta rinsed in the bathroom sink we suspect as they were the same ones we used in the morning and while cleaner, they were not clean. One sheet which we stripped so it would be replaced was not until the fllowing day.

Internet.
They have paid wireless internet but it didn't work through the whole trip. They kept saying they were working on it and for someone who needs to check in on business this was unacceptable. The McDonalds next door has a free wi-fi so I was down there for coffee or breakfast a lot. I would not go back just because of this.

Noise
If it's raining local kids like sqealing their tires with their crappy cars at the local McDonalds at night. Also there were people whooping it up for several hours in the parking lot. This was so close to the main entrance that they had to of heard it and just ignored it.

Recycle
No sign of it. We saw empty beer bottles (lots) being throw in the garbage truck with the rest of the trash.

Restaurant
The one bright spot. Good food, prices are decent although the special never changes. The BEST feature is the play area for kids. We could sit at our table and the kids (2 and 6) spent the whole time in the play area. We had very slow service only 1 day (1 hour to get the meal) but we had beer and the kids wee playing :-) Other options to eat were the Sainsbury's nearby (quite good) and the McDonalds (like McDonalds).

Staff
Were quite friendly and courteous. Just need to take care of business better.

Location
Not very convenient to see anything. Taxi ride was about 5-6 pounds (under $10) which was only slightly more than the bus (for 4 of us) to get down to the beach.

If I were spending one or 2 days this would be OK but I wouldn't spend any more time there personally.

Firstly, this is St Leonards, and not Hastings, so you really need a car. Easy to find if coming from London, but the sat nav struggled when approaching from the West using the A27 coast road. The internet was off as the service provider had gone into receivership the previous week, and they had no contingency. This was a really bad complaint for a business user. The first receptionist was unhelpful. There is NO air conditioning in the rooms and the corridors are poorly ventilated. A fan was provided, which you need on all the time. The room was clean, as was the bathroom. The lift was out of order which would be a big problem if you were disabled. The restarant / breakfast room is actually the Brewers Fayre next door. The over loud and unsuitable piped music drove us mad, and there was no escape anywhere. The Manageress was a bit like a warden. Frosty.
We had one mid day meal and one breakfast. Neither were enjoyable, and to a basic standard. Kids eat for free, and this is their target market, so be warned.

Excellent staff team - helpful & friendly. Unfortunately we had no air conditioning in our room and the window was fitted with a restrictor. When we arrived the room temperature was 28oC but in the morning it had risen to 30oC. The little table top fan did nothing but circulate the hot air around the room.
I requested a refund which was given but the management said they don't advertise that they provide air conditioning so check with the hotel that your room has it.

I didn't take the hotel choice lightly. I weighed a few places up and plumbed for the Premier Inn. I was disappointed when I arrived to discover there was no internet. It seems the company had gone bust that morning. As I came from USA my phone didn't work there and once again I was disapointed that there was no phone in the room. I was told I could go to MacDonalds for an internet connection which is not acceptable. I did that two days out of the three and on the third I had breakfast at the hotel. Again I was disappointed, my sausage was all but raw and the all you can eat deal wasn't really a good deal at all. We ate in the pub part one evening and the chicken tikka masala was very nice. Our room had not been cleaned one day. There was one coffee sachet and no biscuits. I was over for a wedding, the lack of communication facilitys really soured the trip. I will not be staying there again. I did try to find alternative accomodation but was unable too. You get somewhere to sleep and that's pretty much it. Not a nice experience. There was also an abundance of rubbish outside which looked very untidy, and my wife had her foot stung by a nettle that was growing out of the walkway at the front.

Friendly helpful and efficient receptionist. Good rooms with plenty of space for the two adults and a child. The english breakfast was exceptional, plenty of space and staff, with table service and cooked to order, with nothing too much trouble, they even made my daughter a bacon sandwich with ketchup without a quibble.

On noise its best to take rooms overlooking the car park and not the busy main road (A21). Also best to go high as you can hear occupants walking on floors above.
