I was looking for somewhere to curl up to have a meal for Thanksgiving and wanted somewhere with a fireplace and atmosphere. I achieved that objective with this place. The staff are all very friendly, the food was good pub food, the atmosphere is lovely and the wifi is 5x download and 10x upload to what I experience where I am staying! The building itself is glorious. Originally a family home, this Grade II listed building is mostly original, including the pebble decoration at the front. The timber on the front of the building was salvaged from from bombed sites during the war and and from a local shipwreck. All in all an excellent location and I will be back! Thank you!

Please clarify what time your child friendly policy is in the restaurant to come and eat, as we came a couple of weeks ago at 7pm on a Saturday and were told no children after 7pm, so last night we arrived just before 6pm and to an empty restaurant area and were told it is 6pm!

Hello, thank you for getting in touch. I'm sorry our policy for children may come across as confusing.
We have an under 12's menu which is available to order until 6pm every day. We kindly ask all young children have left the premises by 7.30pm.
We welcome older children for meals until 9pm on weekdays, but this can be discretionary to the bar manager on duty, for example at weekends or if we are expectiong a large group of drinkers in we may think it would be an unsuitable environment for children.
I hope this helps, many thanks.

Used to be good food, not anymore!
Had to wait a while to be served and felt like I was being ignored. The quality of the food was pretty average. I like my veg crisp rather than soft but not nearly raw & swimming in water!
No sauces offered (mint & horseradish) although advertised on the menu.
The pub has seen better days.

Lovely and atmospheric from the outside, the inside it's just another chain pub without much character. It's saving grace is the food was of a reasonable standard, it may well have been microwaved but regardless it was still of a decent quality and whilst I wouldn't recommend it to anyone of discerning taste, it wasn't offensive or anywhere near unpalatable and would consider returning.

Don't be deceived by its lovely 'old world' exterior as its not as old as you think, intact the pub opposite, The Anchor, is actually older than this establishment and so much better.
When we stopped here for a drink the bar staff were terrible, firstly they did not welcome us and we're more interested in discussing their social life, when they did find time to serve us they got the order completely wrong and did not even offer to put it right! Tables were messy and sticky, we didn't even finish our drinks and left quickly - overall very disappointing.
