Up to cafe rouge usual standard. Definitely recommend the sea bass which was amazing. Long wait for our food but worth it

Booked a table for 4 on line and received confirmation of the table to be located in main area on ground floor at 8.00pm. There was no table for us so we were shown upstairs, just us and another large party of 12 already there. Waitress came with menus and we asked for a jug of tap water. After waiting 20 minutes for the tap water which did not arrive we left. When we complained to staff on the way out they just shrugged. Would not recommend this branch to anyone.

What a huge disappointment. Being french, I have been there few time before, and every time had been so please.. But seriously gone down hill. Went there for my partner Birthday last night (as it was where we went on our first date) the camembert was serve with redcurrant JAM, and taste so industrial, nothing like the real oven camembert they use to serve before.. My partner had an average pate serve with mediocre bread look uncooked (certainly not french).. His boeuf bourguignon was alright (still not like my gran or mum will do it, seem they poor a bottle of red wine to give a french taste FAIL to me) and my confit de canard was super dry, the cherry jus was more again like JAM, the snow pea were uneatable as so stringy and the gratin dauphinois was aswell dry.. The service was below average the waitress were soul less and it felt like they more enjoy spending their time behind the bar chatting then anything.. All together , will never return and wouldn't wish it for my worse enemy to go there!! Is a lot of restaurant in Brighton which are worth the experience, this one as just done its time...

This was the first time in a while I have visited cafe rouge, so when looking for somewhere to eat on our trip to brighton we decided we would give it a try. The food on the whole was good, most things were available and both mine and my friend did thoroughly enjoy both our main and dessert.

However the service did leave a lot to be desired. When we arrived at the restaurant it was not overly busy, with many empty but uncleared tables. After a few minutes we were acknowledged and the waitress pointed at a table and told us to sit down. Then we sat for around 5 - 10 minutes without being given a menu, whilst other customers arrived after us and were seated and given menus until finally after signalling a waiter.

Service on the whole was slow but the other main service issue was regarding our desserts; they had obviously been left in the dumb waiter for too long and both were looking a little worse for wear, but we actually overheard a conversation akin to 'shall we serve these' followed by 'give it to them and see if they complain'. Needless to say when my friends chocolate fondant was ice cold we did complain.

Overall I would definitely recommend going to another restaurant, with many of a superior quality in the lanes and other areas of brighton, the only reason i have even given 2 stars is because of the food quality.

As grand parents visiting from Australia, we took our 4 year old twin boys for dinner at Cafe Rouge. Service was excellent, particularly for the children. The Italian waiter suggested childrens' food and served it very quickly.

The food is reasonable cafe quality. The French wine we selected was reasonably priced.

Because it is a mall, the boys were able to play with their toy cars in the street
