Description: Voted 'Best Restaurant' in the Brighton Foodie Awards 2012Good food Guide 2013Food for Friends restaurant in Brighton has been in the vanguard of vegetarian cuisine for more than twenty five years. Set in The Lanes, Brighton’s most happening district, Food for Friends has slowly spread over three shop fronts, developing a labyrinth of brightly lit, modern dining rooms kitted out with stylish minimalism, some overlooking the bustling lanes outside. Cuisine from around the globe is created using predominantly local, organic ingredients, some delivered by bike. Vegans and those with food allergies and intolerances are well cared for here. Wines are organic and mainly vegan, coffee is fairtrade, and an irresistible afternoon tea is served.

“Confirmed meat eater but still loved it”
Reviewed November 8, 2012 via mobile

This was recommended by my dinner companion and although I'm to a vegetarian was keen to try . We didn't have a reservation and the place was full on a Wednesday but the young lady in charge found us a table quickly. The staff were all very friendly and our waitress had a sense of humour. Wine is a little overpriced but the white Rioja was very good. Duck egg and polenta chips, cheese and mushroom pie with mash and hot vegetables were both excellent. Worth the extra money.

“Non végétarienne conquise! Convinced!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

I'm not really crazy about vegetables and the idea of having lunch in a vegetarian restaurant did not work up my enthusiasm at first. This place proved me wrong. It was a treat, really.

“Really enjoyable food, slightly pricely, service could have been better”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

Me and a friend stopped by Food for Friends for a bite to eat on a lunch time. We're both vegetarian so were keen to try as this place had been recommended to us. Initial impressions of the service weren't great and we had to wait quite a while to be seated. The (numerous) staff seemed to be run off their feet despite the restaurant not being that full and as such we were left wondering when we were going to get a table. As it was a Sunday we both plumped for the Roast which was a Wellington with accompanying vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding etc. We found the food to be really really tasty but at £11 for a plate it was slightly pricey for what it was. Similarly the drinks we ordered (an Apple & Pear refresher and an apple & raspberry smoothie) were very tasty but definitely over priced at just shy of £4 each. The service once we were seated wasn't bad, the staff were quick to take our orders and our food came promptly (but not too promptly!). No one came over to ask whether everything was OK which is something that, as a former waiter myself, I find slightly irksome, particularly in slightly more upmarket restaurants such as this. Would certainly go again but there's room for improvement.

“Consistantly good food.”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

I've been coming here for years, from it's early days as just a health food cafe to it's current status as a well-established Brighton restaurant. Consistantly good food and service, loved by vegetarians and meat-eaters alike, not to mention the odd celebrity. My only criticism is that some of the seating is a little cramped, but other than that I cant fault it.

“Great food; a little pricey”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

We were there early so good service - food was excellent, but even having said that, I think almost £13 for a relatively small pot of sweet potato curry is a little on the pricey side, to be honest.

The starter and dessert were delicious but a little on the small side portion wise.

Overall though, I would recommend if you're feeling a little flushed, as everything was very tasty.
