Description: There's nowhere better to tuck into some fresh fish 'n' chips than by the seaside, and The Regency Restaurant on the King's Road is the oldest seafood restaurant in Brighton and Hove with ocean views. Famous for its fresh fish and lively atmosphere, the restaurant has become a dining institution with both locals and visitors from out of town and boasts a cheery red and white tiled terrace that looks out over the West Pier, and a cosy dining room perfect for leisurely lunches and relaxed evening meals. The Regency Restaurant serves everything from locally caught fish to lobster, oysters, mussels, Dover sole, crab, prime Scotch steaks and a variety of vegetarian options along with an excellent wine list.

“Fantastic Fish Restaurant”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

While visiting relatives they told us about the Regency Fish Restaurant. We went to Brighton for the day and decided to try the restaurant, Wow.

When we arrived we were greeted by pleasant staff, offered drinks and the menu, spoilt for choice. The specials board was full of fantastic dishes, what to choose! Both of us had the Oysters (I am very new to them), they were brilliant. My husband had the swordfish and I had the monk fish special of the day, both dishes fantastic.

I would certainly recommend this restaurant if you visit Brighton, doesn't look special from outside but definitely worth every penny. It was extremely busy which is always a good sign.

“Coped well with a crowd”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

Was part of a large party and was impressed at how well they coped especially on a Saturday evening. Service and food very good although a few of us felt food could have been hotter but given there were over 20 of us this was a minor moan. Several professional chefs among our party were well impressed.
Fish was most peoples choice and we weren't disappointed. Mussels were said to be excellent.
Will definitely return.

“Check Your Bill Closely!”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

I've eaten at this restaurant three times in the past year and the food has been good every time. The whole grilled plaice is particularly good. However, I would advise all customers to check their bills very closely. On our last visit we found that they had added an extra main course to our bill along with an extra bottle of wine and three starters that we did not have. The whole bill was nearly £40 too much. When we brought this to their attention, nobody apologised and they seemed to have an attitude when correcting it.

As a result we have decided not to eat there anymore.

“A first class restaurant with sea views”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

I ate at the Regency recently and was very impressed by the choice of fish dishes and the keeness of the prices.
I chose the mussels followed by fish and chips and finished with creme brulee. The meal was hot, tasty and served promptly.
The waiters were polite and friendly and one waiter in particular, Dino I believe, had interesting views on politicians delivered whilst maintaining the highest level of service.
A great place to dine; book in advance when possible as it's always very busy.

“Better than expected”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

The recent reviews for this restaurant seem to be polarised between the 5 & 4 star eulogy to the one star dismissal. I’d been concerned by the recent poor reviews so was pleasantly surprised the experience and would say it was pretty ok for quality but with good service. Given there was a large party of us the service was patient, efficient and delivered with a smile. I had the skate which was pretty good and a treat in that I hadn’t had skate for years, the chips were ok though there were fewer than I would have expected; my scallop starter on the other hand was not good, three scallops with a chili dressing that was bland and one of the scallops was overcooked in part making it inedible.
In short this place is ok, what you’d expect on the seafront really; not bad (certainly not as bad as the recent negative reviews) but not very good. Would we return? No. There are better (and worse) restaurants in Brighton and it’s nothing special, hence the 3 stars.
