Lunchtime on a hot and sticky Saturday, Brighton was hiving and we needed lunch. They had a table and why not? The order was placed at the bar: a ploughman's for herself, the panfried sardines without the salsa and proscribed veggies but a green salad instead for me, a pint and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. All well and good.
And then we found out that the green salad was an additional £2.50. Well ok but a bit tight (could the salsa and veggies not substitute?). And then the sardines arrived without the ploughman's. Apparently, the ploughman's had not been recorded or charged at the bar. However she identified the problem, fixed it, apologised and while we would have to pay for the ploughman's at the end, they provided an additional glass of wine on the house. What else could they have done?
The sardines were good but the salad was naked which was a pity (but when you go off menu what can you expect?). The ploughman's was deeply anodyne.
A miss-taken order but it was fixed, It would have been nice to have eaten together rather than in series and had we had a deadline it would have been infuriating. However, they did their best to fix the problem. But a 10% service charge? Paying to fix their mistake?
