Description: With a grand Cuban-inspired interior and a leisurely, laid-back atmosphere, Havana Restaurant and Bar in Brighton is located on the historic site of the old Duke Street Theatre which dates back to 1790. The restaurant's fine food, wine and live jazz bands will inspire you to start puffing on a cigar and reading a hedonistic Hemingway novel before dinner and the dining room boasts high ceilings, dark oak wood tables, a fountain and a grand piano adding to the restaurant's colonial charm. Favourite dishes from the modern British menu include the sirloin steak served with spinach, confit potatoes and Béarnaise sauce; and the rack of lamb with rosemary potatoes, courgette marmalade, baby red peppers and basil mash.

“lovely evening”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

Went Havana on a Friday night between 8-10pm for 2 people. Was pretty much 70-80% full downstairs with a couple of large groups. Firstly, the interior is beautifully decorated and lovely feel of sophistication. Wonderful food, not a very lareg choice on the menu, but didn't bother us as we both ordered the steaks. Not overly expensive for the quality of the food and the surroundings.

One thing, the bread they serve at your table before your meal was slightly tough for my liking. I like warm, fresh out the oven bread if they are offering. Personal preference. Also, when the restaurant did get slightly busy, I did notice the staff looked very busy catering to maybe too many tables per waiter(ess). This was not an issue for us but would have been nice for our plates to be taken quicker etc.

Would defiantly recommend this restaurant for couples and social groups, don't think this restaurant would be ideal with small children.

“Hard to fault... Would definitely come back! ”
Reviewed April 20, 2014 via mobile

Loved this restaurant. Wonderful food. Full of flavor and good menu choice. We loved the ambience and the lazy Sunday afternoon chillout vibe was spot on. Staff were attentive and helpful. Not overly expensive, so I would definitely come here again.

“Lazy Wednesday lunch.”
Reviewed April 9, 2014 via mobile

I was working half day and it was a great opportunity to have one of the rare lazy luches with a friend.
The staff were very accommodating, we changed tables 3 times until we reached the one next to the window in the sun.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and both the sauvignon and the mushroom risotto were amazing! Not impressed with the mezze plater or the desert. The lunch set menu for 2 courses is just £9.95 and it is a bargain. I did not mind the starter and desert that much but it would be great if they had some more flavour.

“Great Staff”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

It was a family outing for dinner. The starters were lovely. The main courses ok but my ribeye steak was a bit tough(unusual for ribeye).

Two of the party had cocktails-not cheap- but "brilliant".

It is a lovely restaurant with very attentive staff. In my opinion there is a problem with the acoustics.
It is very very noisy and difficult to hold a conversation.

However, if you want a good night out and are prepared to spend a few bob it's a good venue.

“Lovely Saturday lunch ”
Reviewed April 5, 2014 via mobile

We stopped by on the off chance for a spot of light lunch. We opted for some wine and has simple dishes of Caesar Salad and Eggs Benedict. Lovely efficient attention from the staff and it was a nice place to eat.

The only spoil for me was that a few hen party groups were there at the same time and they were noisy - no fault of the restaurant, but due to the enclosed space and hard surfaces the noise was quite distracting and overbearing at times.

Would certainly visit again though, perhaps try and be seated nearer the entrance away from the noisy rear area.

Lunch came to ~£30 which wasn't bad at all with the large glasses of wine.
