Description: Moshimo is one of Brighton's most popular restaurants, with a fiercely loyal customer base: 35% of its customers dine at the restaurant at least once a week. They visit regularly because they know the staff, and know how good the food is.The restaurant's 50% MOSHIMO MONDAYS & TUESDAYS, where members receive 50% off their food, is a sell-out. Check the restaurant out in the summer, when the entire front of the restaurant dramatically slides open like a shoji screen.Moshimo is behind FISHLOVE, the global photographic campaign to end over-fishing, has received a PETA award for its promotion of restorative eating, and its homemade teriyaki sauce is a sensation.......but don't it from us - go to our Facebook page to see what our regulars have to say.

“Average service, decent sushi”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2014

Worth the wait if you're a member for half-off on Mondays and Tuesdays. Pretty good sushi, and best menu item is the pulled pork noodles. Decent drinks list, and really good chocolate mousse for dessert. However, tables are sticky and it feels like the staff are always in a bit of bother.

Thank you for your review, and we're glad that you enjoyed our food. The stickiness on the tables may be due to the new stickers we have introduced to keep the chopsticks folded in the serviettes, but certainly nothing to do with hygiene. We're looking into replacing the stickers to avoid this problem.
Thank you again,
Nicky

“Amazing, as long as you love fish!! (Obviously)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2014

I went with my partner and he LOVED it!! He's eager to go back and try the food again. I'm not the biggest of fish lovers, so for me it was a little hit n miss but it was a great experience and I would go back, maybe just ask for more assistance from the menu next time!

Alison, thank you for your nice feedback. We have, or course, loads of non-fish items on our menu - vegan, vegetarian, and meat - so I'm sure you'll find something you'll like at Moshimo!

“Soya Sauce”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2014

I spent a total of £14:60 for some Sushi as a treat. The gave me one sachet of Soya Sauce and a little Ginger. I asked for some more to which the waited said he had to speak to his Manager about it. After making me feel unwelcome and as if I asked for a free meal, they reluctantly gave me one more sachet!!!! Never go back!

Gosh, Zara, were you having a bad day? Really, though, you shouldn't take it out on us, you know. I believe what really happened is that you upgraded some of the items in your sushi box and there was a little bit of confusion from our new member of staff as to how much extra this would cost... a pretty understandable situation, no?

Thank you for our one star, though. We'll wear it with pride.

“Bad Service and Below Average Food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

Our first and last visit to Moshimo. The service was extremely slow first of all. Then we ordered a sushi boat to share, the server asked if we wanted sashimi or just sushi on it, we asked for just sushi. She then proceeded to bring us out a boat with about 80% sashimi on it. When my partner told her we had ordered just sushi she said "No you didn't"! Being present when he ordered, I can 100% guarantee he did as we had a discussion about it. But, not wanting to cause problems we just took it anyway. Still wanting the sushi we had ordered originally, we pulled a few items off of the revolving belt and they just didn't seem as fresh as we would have hoped for and they didn't taste particularly nice. Needless to say, we won't be going back.

I'm perplexed by this. We would never fill a sushi boat with sashimi because this would simply be far too expensive for us and our customers. Reading your review, I feel there's something you're not quite telling your readers.

Your comment about our sushi from the belt not being fresh or not tasting particularly nice is absurd. Why would we be so popular if this were the case?

I'd be interested to know if you find better sushi in Brighton. I don't believe you will.

All the best,
Nicky

“Great evening out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

We started our evening with friends with 2-4-1 cocktails at Be At One, just around the corner from Moshimo, and were definitely ready for dinner when we arrived.

The menu at Moshimo is brilliant - we were two vegetarians and two meat-eaters, so we were really pleased that both had a good choice. The vegetarians ended up sharing the 'Faroes' platter which was nice, though we weren't sure about the teriyaki pieces. They also shared the vegetable tempura (nice, though when they say 'small dish', they mean small! And the broccoli was overcooked) and the vegetable gyoza which were very nice.

The meat eaters both had the tasting platter which was excellent, and represented real value for money. It was nice that some of the dishes were vegetarian so could be shared with the veggies, and the trio of sake was great. The variety and size of the platter was great, thoroughly recommended.

Service was friendly and prompt, and the atmosphere was great - buzzing but not intrusive or noisy.

We'd definitely recommend going!
