“Excellent value”

After having read some of the reviews on here i was not sure what i was going to experience. However all was well, the room was fine, the food in the restaurant was very good indeed, with lots of friendly and helpfull staff. We went for the innkeepers lodge weekend deal which is very good value considering Brighton's accomodation prices. One word of advice, leave your car in the carpark and take advantage of the excellent Brighton bus service. We certainly will be back at the Black Lion soon!!!

We popped in to the Black Lion for a meal after going swimming on Saturday (6pm). We were quickly taken to our table which was situated next to a large window. Our only complaint would be take it felt cold next to the window and the light was very dim.
The restaurant and toilets were clean and staff were going around sweeping, wiping up and quickly clearing the tables. Everything looked nicely decorated and in a good state of repair.
Gr8 meals which included free salad and warm rolls.
Staff were friendly and helpful, but not in your face.
The 3 of us eat for £30 including 1 drink each.
We will be back for more!

Food on the floor not been cleared up....

Dirty tables - not cleaned properly and I had to ask them to clean the table and remoe food from last guests which was visible

Bad service - they were clearly understaffed and it took ages

Stay away!!!

We stayed here for 1 night, before going to the Veteran Car Club rally, and having read other reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. We had a twin bedded room, which was perfectly adequate for what we wanted. Although the decor was rather old and tired looking, the beds were really comfortable, and we had a good night's sleep. There were tea and coffee making facilities, and continental breakfast was included in the price, making it better value than we've had at Travelodges before. It was very convenient to get into Brighton. We ate in the Harvester next door, and had a very good meal. We'd stay here again if we were in the Brighton area.

We had to stay at this hotel whilst attending a beautiful wedding. The management put the room rate up from £45 before there was a block booking to £79 when all the booking were made, to £89 to actual rate when guests checked in. The annexe we stayed in smelt and had no window to open to clear it. It was 20 years past the need of a refurb so to charge nearly £90 was quite frankly a rip off. No-one wanted to complain as they obviously had given the bride & brides parents refurb rooms so they thought everyone's was the same standard. The only reason we didn't make a fuss was because we didn't want to spoil a perfect wedding day.
Don't sat there until you know they have refurb the whole place!!!
Staff are good do management are letting them done ... embarrassing for them..

Room Tip: Dont book unless you see the room you are getting

Just returned from The Black Lion in Patcham. Having read the previous reviews I was unsure what to expect. However I have no complaints at all about this inn. I paid £55 per night per room for a family room for 3 (could accommodate 4 via 1 double bed & 1 sofa bed). It was clean, there were clean towels daily, plus everything else you would expect from a B & B, and plenty free car parking (Brighton London Rd Travelodge has independent car parking which is over £10 daily, if you can get in). There are bus stops just outside as car parking is expensive in the city centre during daytime hours. The continental breakfast had a good selection of food and drinks although you could pay for a cooked breakfast if you wanted to. The Harvester downstairs was good value for money, we ate there 2 nights out of 4. Staff were very friendly, helpful and approachable. We were above the main entrance but the bar closes at 11pm so outside noise from other people was minimal. It is next to a main road & if youre on the front it can be noisy although additional windows have been installed, so this didnt bother us at all. I've paid between £80 - £100 for a family room in Brighton before with no parking and terrible food, so this was a bonus. I think this is really good value & would definitely stay there again & recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Email them with preferences beforehand. If you have any mobility issues you would need to be in the...

2 adults 3 kids (7, 14 & 15). Yes in general the place needs money spending on decor, carpets & plumbing! We needed 2 rooms the double room was fine & located within the hotel but the family room, 105, we had to go outside round the back of hotel. Family room only had 1 small roof window & the corridors leading to it were smelly however the room wasn't thankfully! We were in the hotel less than 12 hrs which most of that time was spent sleeping. I didn't have high expectations due to the price so didn't feel too let down. We thought breakfast was cooked so hubby & kids disappointed it was continental, but it was fine. Would stay again if needed too but only for 1 night, when the price is an issue 'beggars can't be choosers'!
