“One of the nicest cups of coffee i've ever had.”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

You can't go wrong at Cafe Metropolis, the coffee is superb and the pastries are on par! I actually ordered the Spinach and Feta Filo Parcels, which were absolutely delicious, so much so, i will be returning again soon for some more!

This cafe is a welcomed alternative to the main high street coffee chains. The actual ambience of the place is very laid back with subtle background music, all-in-all, a great space with friendly staff and nice food and drink. If you need to take some time-out, look no further this is the place.

Definitely worth a visit if you're in town, even if it's just for the coffee!

“Great little Cafè, Great Coffee, Great Staff”
Reviewed November 5, 2013 via mobile

My local Brighton café changed hands earlier this year, a sad farewell to 'Relax cafe's' Vicky & Steve who moved on to a warmer Australian climate.

In 'Relax's' place 'Cafe Metropolis' appeared. A complete change of decor and menu.

Café Metropolis takes its coffee seriously offering many different ways of making coffee.

As well as a traditional coffee menu from a Gaggia style machine, Metropolis also has several other coffee brewing machines and methods from different eras from all over the world. Sounds complicated? Not when explained by the lovely Faye who introduced me to all the different coffee making methods on offer.

Over a few weeks I've tried most of the different methods of coffee brewing available and found my favourites for different times of the day. A favourite at the moment is the Chemex coffee method for late afternoon (close to a filter coffee but much more exciting flavour wis), or an Americano for earlier in the day.

They also have older coffee making contraptions, some powered by their own little oil burner.

Today Faye recommended that I tried the homemade Raspberry and chocolate cake, which was delicious and went so well with my coffee.

Metropolis has a great atmosphere, Faye and the other staff make you very welcome, it's a great place to go to read the paper, the seats are comfortable, plenty of table space for your paper and the jolly 1920's background jazz adds nice upbeat ambience.

The decor is nicely done, giving the impression that your in a rustic well loved café. Such a nice change to your average modern Café.

They have a growing food menu that I have yet to explore.

A welcome addition to the area!
