“Water View?”
Reviewed July 28, 2005

Stayed two nights. Very nice hosts and a wonderful breakfast. You could tell you were in an old building that had been tastefully decorated, the floors sloped towards the bathroom. I think next time for the money I would stay a block down on the water with a full water view not just a peek when you stick you head out the window. JV

I stayed at the Wave for nights in July and had a lovely time! The luxury double on the top floor looked out over the rooftops of Brighton and I could see the spires of the Pavilion. Yes, the bathroom's compact but completely fine, spotlessly clean and stocked with full-size premium toiletries - lotion, conditioner, shampoo, etc! An electric shower means no worries about the lack of hot water at peak times.

The bedside kettle, tea, coffee, water and choccies are a fab treat after a heavy night on the town! Comfy bed, nice sheets, very fluffy towels and the seagrass carpet make for a nice beachhouse feel. The room was actually a bit bigger than I expected. Breakfast is wonderful - grilled to order - no greasy B&B breakfast here. The small lounge area with complimentary laptop is a nice touch. There's no phone in the rooms or lobby, so bring your mobile - the payphones in the street aren't too reliable.

Shaun and Martin are great hosts who know the town inside out. The Wave is literally steps away from the seafront and all of Gay Village bars/clubs.

Keep in mind that this is a B & B, not a hotel, thus: no phones, no elevator, and no air conditioning (rare in England anyway). On the plus side, free wireless internet and free use of a computer in the common room. The location is excellent, and the hosts are very helpful and knowlegeable. The rooms are clean, modern, and well kept with a good bed. Parking is a problem in Brighton... we found unrestricted parking about a 15 minute walk north, and just left the car there. We could walk to all main Brighton attractions from the B & B.

Recently returned from a two night weekend stay at this B&B. We were heavily influnenced to stay here by other reviews on this site and the hotel's own website.

Firstly want to say that we are not trying to find faults with this B&B but feel that people should have a more complete review prior to booking.

Shaun /Martin (didn't get a chance to get the names right) who greated us provided us with lots of information on what to do and see in Brighton and gave us a feel of the place ( this being our first visit) however we were immedialy shocked when asked to sign a dammage waver - we have stayed in many hotels around the world and have never been asked to do so - from that moment on we constantly on guard and worried about causing any "damage" and hence never manged to feel "at home" and were contstantly aware that we were staying in someone's home and not a hotel.

The rooms are nice and clean and 100% better than any other B&B (the free chocs and the flatscreen TV a nice touch), however did not quite meet the criteria of a boutigue hotel. The carpet and the overall finish of the rooms seemed cheap and very Ikeaish, again not a problem but this is meant to be a hotel and would not have expected this from another good hotel. The doors for the room were poor quality and had a studenty feel about them. We paid £140 for our room and expected more for our money.

Please don't get me wrong BrightonWave is a good choice if you are looking for a B&B (although a slightly pricey one) but was not and should not be called a hotel as it was lacking the look and feel of hotel.

The Hotel's website gives a good idea of what to expect, and we were not disappointed. Cool, contemporary rooms with ensuites that, although small are a brilliant use of the space available, and more than adequate. Shaun and Martin are the perfect hosts, attentive but not intrusive. Although this is not a vegetarian Hotel, its cooked vegetarian breakfasts are superb, and they went to the trouble of getting soya milk in for us. The location is ideal, and Martin is a mine of informed suggestions and recommendations. Our stay was very enjoyable and it felt more like a visit to some friends (with a very cool house), than a stay in an hotel. We would recommend it and would definitely stay there again.
