Velo opened with a buzz of publicity - a green roof, a rain harvesting system and cycle repairs while you brunch! It forms part of the remodelled Level park, situated between a skateboarding area and a kid's playground. An architect friend of mine asked to meet there when he visited from London this summer. Sadly, we discovered that the 'green' roof is currently brown - covered in dead grass and the odd empty coke bottle. Oh, Brighton - how quickly things get shabby here!
The food at Velo is so-so - the usual fried stuff and salads that have been sitting about a bit. I believe their staff go on special coffee-making courses, but my smoothie was watery. If I was at the park, I might stop here, but wouldn't make a special journey. The London Road has more welcoming coffee shops, without a continuous loop of cyclists on an enormous screen!
