“Atmosphere makes it”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2014

I have been to this restaurant twice, once with a party, once with my wife.
The party visit was on a Saturday and the place was buzzing, service was fantastic and there was great variety on the menu.
I went midweek with my wife and it was very quiet, there were not many staff on which affected service and the menu seemed smaller and less varied.
I'm sure there are good economic reasons for this but it was disappointing.

“Pleasant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014 via mobile

I ate here with a friend last week it's a nice setting and the food was good. I had oysters and the lobster burger which was nice but nothing to blow you away for the price. We then walked across the corridor to the bar area which had a great atmosphere!

“First rate food, ambience and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2014

I can't think of a meal I've enjoyed more. The food was very good - we shared a crab platter as a starter, which is a very generous plate of food. The chef who prepared and served the shellfish talked me through how they were prepared, assembling the plate in front of me, which was a good experience. On the advice of the maitre d' we didn't order a main course until we'd finished the starter. This was a good steer because it took some time to finish and we were quite full afterwards. As it happens, we shared a fish curry (one of their popular dishes) and followed that by sharing their lemon meringue pie. All washed down with a couple of champagne cocktails (we were celebrating). The bill was very reasonable and the service deserves better than five stars. We were made to feel very at home from the moment we entered the restaurant. My wife is a celiac and the waiter was particularly attentive to this. Loved it from start to finish and will definitely be eating at GB1 again.

“Special Fine Dining Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

We were shown to our sea view table and advised of the specials of the day. Pre-ordered champagne arrived soon after, which was very enjoyable. Starters we had were sushi style scallops and crab cocktail, then we both enjoyed steak, I had langoustines with mine which were sweet & delicious. Desserts were strawberry mouse & shortbread, and lime panacotta with a mini chocolate pudding - the serving slate was decorated with crushed pistachios and crumbled dried raspberry, fresh raspberry & tiny pansy's - what a work of art! Both enjoyed a very special meal. Would love to dine here again without a doubt. Food was excellent. (Advise to book 1 week ahead at least)
